I’m thrilled to share the latest installment of our Font Pairings series, Font Pairings: Our favorite Google Fonts based on popular design keywords. This recurring series is meant to inspire and inform our Medium community on font pairings for specific restaurant concepts. Check it out!

When a beloved restaurant closes, it’s not just the employees and owners who are affected. The community loses a pillar, too. In the first half of the 2020s, more than 70,000 restaurants shuttered across the U.S. But the restaurant industry is an organic, highly human space. When a concept has fans in the dining room and a visionary team behind it, very little can keep it from being successful again. Not COVID, not money problems, not natural disasters. Restaurants can reopen by finding new ownership, reimagining themselves in new spaces, or renegotiating leases with landlords. Here are two stories of beloved hospitality businesses that found new life in new iterations.

Hi everyone! Andy Berman here, Director of Business Strategy for Restaurant Solutions at Fiserv. Once a month I'm going to share something that I think is interesting and important to our industry. Today, let's talk about some of the interesting trends surfaced from a US Foods survey of ~1,000 diners. After several years of rapid growth for restaurant delivery, diner trends have begun to reverse, with dining out frequency surging in 2024 (dining out includes eating at a table at a QSR/fast casual restaurant). The average person surveyed dined out 4.6x per month (up from 3.0x in 2023) and ordered take out 3.0x per month (down from 4.5x per month). This survey also shared top reasons why diners choose to dine out at restaurants with the highest ranking reasons being the atmosphere (66%), to socialize (52%), and to celebrate special occasions (44%). This reinforces the important role of diner experience in customer satisfaction and loyalty. Great food is critical, but restaurants should also make sure that they focus on key pieces of the diner experience including speed of service and personalization. Want to read the full report?
