Coming soon to the City of Long Branch...a beautifully restored Long Branch Free Public Library. ?? DIG was entrusted with the design of renovations to restore the library's Carnegie Wing to its original grandeur, including interior upgrades, a new special collections room, new program spaces, and more. Officially opened in 1920, the #LongBranchFreePublicLibrary is believed to be the last #Carnegielibrary built with funds awarded by Andrew Carnegie and the Carnegie Foundation. Renovations will include restoration of the original Carnegie wing, a new local history room, young adult space, community rooms, energy-efficient HVAC system, water-proofing upgrades, and a whole-building emergency generator. Featured in the library’s core is an exhibition room of their local history collection. As the noteworthy vacation haven of seven US presidents, the city takes great pride in its place in history. Many of its patrons have contributed to this ever-expanding archive of local history. DIG introduced a display case wall enclosure to allow patrons to enjoy its exhibits even while the room is unattended. Its relocation to the core avoids exposure to daylight and serves as the hub of the building’s circulation. The library was also recognized as a 2023 recipient of the nation’s highest museum and library honor — the National Medal for Museum and Library Service. ??
