Our #WomensHistoryMonth celebration continues! This week, we are shining the spotlight on Ashley Bomely, PE. Ashley joined Benesch in 2014 after earning her degree in civil engineering from the University of Massachusetts. Specializing in highway engineering, Ashley currently serves as a project manager based in our Boston office where she helps design roadways across the state. Ashley’s career journey started at an early age. “As a child, my dad would often bring me to construction sites which sparked a general curiosity about our built world. In college, I initially pursued architecture because I honestly didn’t know what civil engineering was! After a lot of research and being drawn to bridge design and horizontal construction, I knew civil engineering was the right fit for me.” Over the years, Ashley has seen an increase in the number of women in the engineering field, especially their presence in leadership roles—something she hopes will continue! “Celebrating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day is important for the visibility of women in our field! It allows younger generations to see themselves in the women being celebrated and know that they too can achieve great things in whatever field they decide to pursue.” With that in mind, Ashely shared a bit of advice to the next generation. “If you have an interest in a particular career, try to find any outreach groups or programs that can help you learn more about it. There are so many resources now, both virtual and in person, that can help you pick a career that will make you happy. Also, as cliché as it sounds, do not let anyone tell you that you are not good enough to study a certain field. You are good enough and can achieve great things!"

Happy Women’s History Month! March offers us the perfect opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all the hard-working women at Benesch. Each week, we’ll be featuring a member of our Women of Benesch employee resource group. ? This week, we’re spotlighting Nicole L. Jackson, PE, PTOE, a Benesch Group Manager based in Fort Worth, Texas. Nicole specializes in highway-rail grade crossing engineering and is a national expert in railroad preemption operation and design. ? From an early age, Nicole knew she was going to be an engineer. “I had several engineers in the family and wanted to follow in their footsteps.” ? Nicole’s mother, her biggest role model, always encouraged her to pursue her dreams. More importantly, she showed her what it was to be a trailblazer in her career, which moved Nicole to want to do the same in her own. ? “Just as my mother told for me, I would like to express to young woman that if you want it, you can achieve it. And I believe that I have done that with my own children, as my daughter is now pursuing engineering at university as well.” ? While Nicole has seen an increase in the number of women in engineering, she acknowledges that there is still work to be done. ? “I have seen an increase in women in the engineering field in general and more acceptance of them as equals. While there have been improvements in that area, I think we still have quite a way to go. My recent visit to a local high school engineering class revealed that the ratio of men/women is still very low. We need to continue to promote engineering to girls at a young age!” ? #WomensHistoryMonth #WHM25
