关于我们

As a not-for-profit community health system, Benefis is driven to provide the highest level of care. We serve nearly 230,000 residents across a 15-county region that is bigger than Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont combined. Benefis is the largest non-governmental employer in the Great Falls area, with more than 3,000 employees. Benefis Hospitals has more than 530 beds at its two campuses (that includes 146 beds in long-term care and 20 beds at Peace Hospice of Montana) and partners with over 250 area physicians. More than 100 physicians and advanced practice professionals are employed with Benefis Medical Group. Our hospital provides a wide range of programs and services to help you live the best life possible. We’re here to help you “Live well.” Benefis Health System came about when two Christian-based hospitals became one. Our founders' believed in providing good care to all in need, and trusted that this would be accomplished. The Benefis name was derived using Latin root words: "Bene-" meaning good, and "fis-" for faith and trust. It’s these same root words that make up such terms as ‘beneficial’ and ‘confidence’. Benefis has been a trusted provider of care for more than 100 years. And our name speaks to our commitment: good care one can put faith in. Benefis is consistently ranked among America’s top hospitals by the nation’s leading healthcare ratings organizations, including being rated as one of the 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare!

  • Benefis Health System is donating $25,000 to the Great Falls Community Food Bank this year, and Backpacks4kids Program. Doctors at Benefis chose to give this money in celebration of National Doctor’s Day, and also donated hours of their time packing up the food. Eldon LaTray, an Orthopedic Physician Assistant with Benefis Health System, was one of those volunteers. He says, “I think that's an amazing use of the money to donate to the Great Falls Food Bank. I just think people need help right now. This is a great program, I am proud to be here tonight. I think that food prices are going up and more people are probably needing assistance.”

  • Exciting advancements in heart and vascular care are happening at Benefis Health System! We’re honored to be one of 12 programs in the United States testing a new device used in patients undergoing treatment for carotid artery disease. This device, called the CGuard Prime stent, has a special coating that helps keep plaque from sticking to it, lowering a patient's stroke risk. On Jan. 6, Dr. Dimitrios Koudoumas successfully performed one of these procedures at Benefis and said he was “blown away” by the results. Another procedure is scheduled soon, and we’re excited about what this means for the future of stroke prevention!

  • As we reflect on 2024, Benefis Health System celebrates a year of growth, innovation, and community impact. We welcomed 1,347 new babies into the world and performed 8,708 surgeries, providing expert care to those who needed it most. This year marked the introduction of our new electronic medical record system, Epic, along with the MyChart app, empowering patients with more convenient access to their health information. In Helena, we launched the Benefis Helena Specialty Center, and the Benefis Spine Institute began offering specialized care under the leadership of board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Anthony Russo. Additionally, Great Falls Surgical Associates joined the Benefis team, enhancing our ability to serve the region. Our dedication to community remained steadfast throughout 2024 as Benefis teams traveled 951,000 miles across Montana to provide care, served 1.5 million meals to patients, residents, guests, and staff, and donated 4,250 pounds of food to organizations such as the Great Falls Rescue Mission. Through the generosity of our employees, we raised over $492,069 during our annual giving campaign. As we enter 2025, we remain committed to making a difference in the lives of our patients and our community. Thank you for being part of an extraordinary year, and we look forward to serving you in the year ahead. Wishing you health and happiness in 2025!

  • Welcome Dr. Anthony Russo to the Benefis Spine Institute! Dr. Russo is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and the medical director of the Benefis Spine Institute. Dr. Russo has more than 20 years of experience treating complex issues with the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He provides comprehensive care for the spine, including degenerative conditions, deformities, and traumatic injuries. Dr. Russo developed an interest in human physiology early in life, inspired by his father’s work as a physiology professor. His passion for patient care stemmed from volunteer work with pediatric AIDS patients that he participated in with his mother and stepfather. Dr. Russo attended medical school at George Washington University School of Medicine where he received a Naval Health Professions Scholarship. He served as an orthopedic surgeon on active duty in the Navy for four years, including a deployment to Iraq. Following his service, he completed an advanced clinical experience in spine surgery. Dr. Russo has been practicing in Montana since 2008, often helping patients with complex conditions of the spine get the care they need without leaving the state. He is dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of spine care as it evolves, leveraging the latest technology to improve the accuracy of reconstructions, maintain range of motion, and make surgeries safer and less invasive with a more reliable and less challenging rehabilitation. “Having a complex spinal condition or injury is a scary situation for patients,” he says. “My team and I understand these conditions and work to educate patients to try and minimize the anxiety that can accompany the treatment process. We do our best to make it less scary.” In his free time, Dr. Russo prioritizes time with his wife and three children. He especially enjoys outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, boating, and fishing. He loves when his four Bernese Mountain dogs are able to join in the fun. Learn more at www.benefis.org/spine
