Once home to 80% of Portland’s Black population, the Albina neighborhood was devastated in the 1950s and 1960s by racist urban planning. Entire communities were uprooted as homes were demolished to make way for an interstate, families were displaced, and the area was redlined. Today, the Albina Vision Trust is leading a powerful effort to reclaim and rebuild this historic community across 94 acres, making it the largest restorative redevelopment project in America.
