BEN|EN is excited to announce we have won a Project of the Year Award by the APWA Sacramento Chapter for the West Gibson Road Safe Routes to School – Bicycle and Pedestrian Mobility Improvements project under the Transportation category! This project is owned by CITY OF WOODLAND, CALIFORNIA. Our Project Manager Lizette Martinez, PE (Lizette Zavala) managed the civil engineering services for this project. Here is a brief description of the project: The corridor along W. Gibson Road experienced significant bicycle and pedestrian safety issues. This project aimed to reduce accidents and decrease vehicle miles of travel as many people ride bicycles in this community. Due to the high traffic volume, land use designation, and width of the road, reducing the number of travel lanes via a road diet and adding buffered bicycle lanes was determined the best alternative for the project area. This provided separation from traffic for bicyclists and slowed vehicle speeds while still providing a sufficient level of service for the corridor. The City worked with the school community, residents, and stakeholders to gather information to increase safety around schools in the project area. BEN|EN provided engineering support services, including survey and topographic mapping, utility coordination, road diet design, sidewalk improvements in spot locations, ADA-compliant curb ramp design, signal modifications, pavement evaluation, and pavement resurfacing recommendations using Full-Depth Recycling/Reclamation. Thank you to our hardworking staff for bringing this project to our community, along with UNICO Engineering, Inc. and GPA Consulting.

?? Ceremonial Groundbreaking for the State Streets Pavement Rehabilitation Project! ?? Today, the City of West Sacramento celebrated a major milestone with the ceremonial groundbreaking of the State Streets Pavement Rehabilitation Project at Willie DaPrato Park! This project will transform the area with 6 lane miles of Hot Mix Asphalt, 5 lane miles of slurry seal, and 2.5 miles of curb and gutter repair—a critical step toward improving our community’s infrastructure. In addition to these improvements, the project will replace 31 curb ramps and add conduit for future city infrastructure. This initiative will benefit not only the residents but everyone who enjoys the beautiful parks in the area. A huge thanks to the amazing team and partners who have brought us this far. I look forward to continuing our work together to complete this project and make a lasting impact on our community. ? Bennett Engineering Services + Y&C Transportation Consultants (DBE/SBE) ? BEN|EN is excited to announce we have won a Project of the Year Award by the APWA Sacramento Chapter for the Shenandoah Road Rehabilitation project under the Transportation category! This project is owned by Amador County. Our Director of Transportation Services Carlton Allen, P.E. was the Project Manager for civil engineering services for this project. Here is a brief description of the project: This road provides access to several wineries in the area. Full-depth reclamation (FDR) was required to rehabilitate the road often frequented by farming equipment, delivery trucks, and tourists, with especially heavy traffic during the harvest season. As Project Manager, the firm provided plans, specifications, and estimate, utility coordination, bidding and construction assistance, and preliminary engineering with GEOCON to evaluate subsurface conditions of the road via geotechnical investigation. Approximately 3.75 miles of road were rehabilitated and driveway conforms were added before the fall season began. Thank you to our hardworking staff and team for bringing this project to our community!

BEN|EN is excited to announce we have won a Project of the Year Award by the APWA Sacramento Chapter for the Mather Field Road Rehabilitation project under the Transportation category! This project is owned by City of Rancho Cordova. Our Project Manager Lizette Martinez, PE (Lizette Zavala) managed the design and other civil engineering services of this project. Here is a brief description of the project: BEN|EN provided engineering support services to City staff for the rehabilitation. The project rehabilitated the pavement on Mather Field Road—a four-lane roadway—from Folsom Boulevard to International Drive. The total length of the project was approximately one mile and included aerial imagery with Lidar survey,?topographic mapping, utility coordination, re-design of the existing median, landscape and irrigation design, pavement evaluation, and resurfacing recommendations. By using the point cloud generated by Lidar for survey, areas of distress on the pavement were identified by manipulating the colors of slopes in AutoCAD. Traffic signal design improvements were performed by our traffic division at six intersections, including replacement of the existing damaged detector loops with a video/radar detection system, upgrading existing pedestrian pushbuttons to Accessible Pedestrian Signals, and upgrading existing 8-inch signal heads to 12-inch signal heads. Thank you to our hardworking staff for bringing this project to our community, along with GEOCON, UNICO Engineering, Inc., GPA Consulting, and HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc.!

BEN|EN is excited to announce we have won a Project of the Year Award by the APWA Sacramento Chapter for the Natoma Alley Sewer Rehabilitation project under the Environment – Waste category! This project is owned by City of Folsom. Our Vice President, Stacey Bennett-Lynch, PE was the Project Manager for the civil engineering services of this project. Here is a brief description of the project: The City of Folsom required rehabilitation and relocation of sewer system facilities in an older part of the city. Due to abandonment of City alleyways, many of the sewer mains became encumbered by nearby residences and businesses, severely impacting the City’s access to regularly operate and maintain sewer facilities. This project included the rehabilitation and upsizing of one of the existing sewer mains to an 8-inch pipe, upsizing and relocation of another sewer main into current City right-of-way, and reestablishment of each of the existing sewer laterals to reconnect all private residents and business owners to the system. The team worked closely with the City to evaluate and prepare an alternatives analysis for the alignment of the sewer mains to enable better access for ongoing maintenance. One of the key components of this project included the mitigation of impacts to property owners within the project area. Thank you to our hardworking staff for bringing this project to our community, along with GEOCON and UNICO Engineering, Inc.!
