One of my favorite times of the year !! Not for the feast on Thanksgiving Day… which I do enjoy 😊 But the meaning behind the day itself. Helping caring loving those around you. We are thrilled to announce that Sharing Excess has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development Local Share Account Statewide program! This critical funding will allow us to expand our food rescue and distribution operations, helping us provide even more meals to individuals and families in need across the City of Philadelphia and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Thank you to State Senator Nikil Saval for his advocacy and partnership in bringing these dollars home to Philadelphia! We are excited to put these funds to work and continue growing our impact.
Another fantastic year in the books at the International Fresh Produce Association's Global Produce and Floral Show in Atlanta. Our team made the most of show - meeting with current/future shippers and customers, as well as partaking in volunteer leadership. We kicked off the week by co-sponsoring the IFPA #LeadershipClass alumni reception along with Dayka & Hackett LLC. Where Nikki Wootten, Megan Nash, and Joe Kelsay congratulated class 28 on their graduation and introduced incoming class 29. We also sponsored and participated in the IFPA Race for a Healthier World #5k supporting increased access to fruits and vegetables. Next, we contributed through volunteer leadership on the IFPA #WholesalerDistributor council, facilitated by Andrew Marshall and chaired by Stefanie Katzman of Katzman. We had the opportunity to hear from Mary Heslep at Ten Acre Marketing about marketing ideas specific to our vertical. Several great dinners along the way but a special thanks to Laura Berryessa of Castle Rock Vineyards for bringing together three great legacy distributors: Nathel and Nathel (NY), T.M. Kovacevich - Philadelphia, Inc, and Ben B. Schwartz & Sons. Last but not least, some quality time on the show floor with Julie Krivanek of Krivanek Consulting - a great industry mentor to our staff and constantly pushing us to reach higher.
