On April 8, Belton voters will be asked if they want to continue the 1/4-Cent Emergency Medical Service and Fire Sales Tax. This sales tax generates nearly $1.7 million and directly funds 16 full-time fire department personnel. This is not a new tax and was originally approved in 2006. Small businesses are the heart and soul of our downtown and North Scott districts. This week, Matt Wright, AICP and Jenna Fernandez led the first of many #BuildingBelton town halls where staff had an opportunity to hear directly from those business owners about how City Hall can better support their growth. https://lnkd.in/gMFWNqWg

For a second year Assistant City Manager Mike Ekey , City Clerk Andrea Cunningham, MMC/MPCC and City Manager Joe Warren, MPA led the City Council 101 class. This class gives a crash-course to Council candidates on the April ballot in what it means to be a City Council Member, a part of a Charter City and how to best lead our community from a strategic and mission-setting position. This year we invited high school students and teachers from Belton School District #124 to listen in as we partner to launch the Belton Youth Commission. Another initiative that looks to engage our community and bolster more input about the future of our City!

For three days more than two dozen employees from Fire, Parks, Police, Public Works and Emergency Management departments took time out of their schedule to participate in the Belton Advantage training program. The Belton Advantage is not your typical professional development course. ?? It introduces core principles of managing change, emotional intelligence and teamness. ?? It builds trust and empowers our employees to lead at all levels. ?? It delves into the true meaning of the Athenian Code and why it’s so important as we lead our own community in a way that makes it better than we found it. ?? Most important; it gives our employees the tools and support to serve our residents with Integrity and a Dedication to Service.

???? CONGRATULATIONS! ???? This week Deputy City Clerk Julia Porter was recognized as the City Hall employee of the quarter! Julia has been with the City since 2023 and this past quarter went above and beyond in assisting businesses and residents as the City transitioned to a new online business license system. Here is what her colleagues had to say: "Julia has been on of the leading staff members on the implementation of Central Square on the business licensing side. She's spent countless hours with the team developing the user interface and coordinating one-on-one training with other departments. She has been instrumental in updating this process for all Belton businesses." "Julia has had to navigate the switch of all business licenses to a new online platform. She has done a wonderful job meeting with everyone who comes in needing assistance. Each time a resident leave much happier than when they came in because of the wonderful guidance and patience Julia has with each person." ?? Congratulations, Julia, and thank you for your Integrity and Dedication to Service!

?? Hotcakes for our Heroes! ?? The start to 2025 was a rough one with so much ice, snow and bitter cold. Still, each day our heroes in Public Works, Police, Fire, Parks and more showed up to clear streets, respond to emergencies and serve our residents with Integrity and Dedication to Service. This morning we took some time to thank our folks for all their work and recognized each of them for supporting our community every day! ??????
