Day 9 from Maria Ressa on Standing Up to a Dictator: Believe in the Good:?I saw Ta-Nehisi Coates speak once, and a (white) audience member asked him, “How can you still have hope?” Knowing what he knew, he said,?“I have to have hope,”?like it was the most obvious thing in the world. We have breath. We wake up in the morning. We can be better. https://lnkd.in/gZhbUPbc

Day 8 from Maria Ressa on Standing Up to a Dictator: Silence is Complicity:?Yes! To everyone who says, “I can’t believe what’s happening,” but then makes excuses — “That’ll never work,” “I’m so busy,” “This is just how the world is.” Unfortunately, we got here while we were all?living?here. So, let’s do something with our agency. https://lnkd.in/g2tZPJQA

#belonging in shared learning spaces Can't wait to collaborate with Peter Godard on this. Please sign up and share with other school leaders looking to bring their full selves to their school communities: https://lnkd.in/gb7xmWhM
I'm a Leadership Coach who nurtures people to get real about equity. I'm a white queer man committed to self-definition, shifting power, co-conspiracy, joy & mind-body-spirit.
??????????Queer school leaders, this one’s for you!?????????? When Max Weinberg, Ph.D. and I looked around, we saw that there were plenty of spaces for school leaders—but none that truly centered us. None that acknowledged the unique challenges and superpowers that come with leading as LGBTQIA+ educators. So, we decided to create one. And you’re invited! This spring, we’re launching a virtual affinity space for queer school leaders—a place to connect, share wisdom, and support each other in navigating leadership, identity, and belonging. Together, we’ll explore: ?? How queerness is a leadership strength—yes, even in tough environments ?? How to cultivate joy and resilience for ourselves and our communities ?? How to co-strategize around the challenges we face We’ll meet twice a month (drop-in style—come when you can!), starting in April. ?? Morning sessions: First Wednesdays @ 9 AM CST ?? Afternoon sessions: Third Wednesdays @ 4 PM CST *************************************************************** REGISTER HERE!? https://lnkd.in/grUeNUFf *************************************************************** Cost shouldn’t be a barrier to participation. We invite you to contribute what feels right for you—whether through personal funds or your school’s PD budget. (We’re happy to help with proposals if needed.) If this sounds like the space you’ve been looking for, sign up via the Eventbrite link above! Or, if you know someone who needs this, please pass it along. ?? Questions? Reach out to [email protected] or [email protected] Let’s build something powerful together. ?? #QueerLeadership #LGBTQIAinEducation #Belonging #SchoolLeadership #AffinitySpace

Day 6 from Maria Ressa on Standing Up to a Dictator: Build a Team:?This is the same as #5, and it comes up again in #12. Operating alone has many challenges: We get a more narrow picture, we’re prone to individual bias, and it’s just less fun. (#5: Step by Step to the Tipping Point:?Ressa reminds us that going from A to Z in one jump will not yield the desired results. We must be methodical and thorough to work in coalition and consider the people and places affected by demonic policies.) https://lnkd.in/gZhbUPbc

Day 4 of #belonging in truth + resistance. From Maria Ressa on How to Stand Up to A Dictator: Be Honest:?Ressa refers to this as the mission of journalism. One of favorite quotes of all times comes from Justice Louis D. Brandeis:?Truth even unto its innermost parts. Watching liars lie without flinching may be one of the worst human traits. Be honest with yourself and with others as we seek change. This is a practice I am still working on. Right now I preface things with "I'm going to speak from the heart. It may not come out perfect, but here goes..." Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gZhbUPbc

Day 3 of #belonging in truth + resistance. From Maria Ressa on how to stand up to a dictator (orange w/ rotting teeth or otherwise): Be Vulnerable:?Be willing to ask questions to understand. Share when you’re confused or wrong.
