This event gathers attendees from the product safety community, including regulators, academics, manufacturers, and more. Rimkus Principal Consultant Rose Figueroa, PhD, CHFP, will be moderating and serving as a panelist on two breakout sessions titled “Power in Little Hands: New Insights in Child Strength for Product and Safety Standards.” This panel will discuss new data (gathered by the University of Michigan through a CPSC-funded project) about children's functional strength and how these insights can be used for product design, development, and safety assessments. Joining Dr. Figueroa on this panel are Jonathan Midgett, Ph.D., Consumer Ombudsman at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and Monica Jones, Ph.D. CPE, Associate Research Scientist at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI). We would also like to acknowledge the work in gathering this data of Dr. Matthew P. Reed of UMTRI and others on the UMTRI team, as well as Kristen Talcott from the CPSC. Join us in congratulating Rose Figueroa, PhD, CHFP - Vice President of the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE)’s Board of Directors. The HFES - Human Factors and Ergonomics Society—awarded her the Inclusion for Service Inaugural Award last week at #ASPIRE24. According to #HFES, this award is presented in recognition of her outstanding contributions to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice in the human factors and ergonomics (HF/E) field and to HFES itself throughout the years.This is something #BCPE has witnessed first hand as well. Dr. Figueroa consistently advocates for DEI, especially within the HF/E community, and she leads by example. She readily leverages her network and serves as a bridge to connect anyone, but especially people from minoritized communities to amplify their voices and contributions. She also constantly serves as a mentor to any student and early career professional, and constantly gives back to the HF/E community.
