Belmont University - College of Sciences & Mathematics has gained boat access to the Cumberland and Harpeth Rivers, enabling students and faculty to conduct research on microplastic pollution, study the effects of river waste on local organisms and host educational outreach events! ?? The boat access not only provides hands-on learning experiences for environmental science and biology students but also helps them visualize potential career paths in scientific fields while contributing to the understanding and preservation of local waterways. ?? ?? Earlier this week, the incomparable Dr. Beth Bowman was named Belmont's inaugural staff SOUL Award winner! The award, as voted on by her fellow staff and faculty members, recognizes one unsung staff member who embodies the SOUL framework here at Belmont — hope, love, joy, humility and wisdom. In addition, Dr. Linda Jones was named a finalist for the faculty SOUL award. Congratulations to both Dr. Bowman and Dr. Jones, and thank you for your tireless dedication to our students and your colleagues!

Recently, Belmont launched the Health Care Exploration for Aspiring Leaders (HEALs) program, allowing students to explore diverse health care paths while working towards conditional admission to graduate-level health care programs. Dr. Steve Murphree, professor of Biology, recently attended the inaugural Science Fair Directors Institute at the historic Union Station in Kansas City! Since 2015, Dr. Murphree has been serving as the director of the Middle Tennessee Science and Engineering Fair hosted at Belmont, making a lasting impact on the next generation of young scientists. The Science Fair Directors Institute (SFDI) was founded by science fair directors across the U.S., created to support a network of leaders who run regional and state science and engineering fairs. With over 80 years of combined experience, the team is dedicated to energizing student competitions and enabling leadership in local communities.
