We are very thankful for our alumni and teachers who are out there, sharing the gifts that they cultivated with us, like Ms. Ashlyn Hay. Ms. Hay graduated in May of 2023 with a BS in Elementary Education and is in her second year teaching 1st grade at Jones Elementary School. She was recognized recently at a Vanderbilt football game for her dedication to her students. "Ms. Hay sets high expectations and gives her students the confidence they need to succeed." ???? #elementaryeducation #vanderbiltfootball #school #education #belmont

Proud to highlight Dr. Amanda Nelms from our College of Education, who recently presented at Belmont University's 23rd annual Humanities Symposium! ? Dr. Nelms shared valuable insights on English Language Learners (ELs) in Metro Nashville Public Schools, emphasizing the importance of moving from a deficit to an asset mindset in ESL education. With nearly 24,000 active EL students in Nashville and projections of 15% growth by year-end, her expertise is more crucial than ever. ? Dr. Nelms, alongside education student Meagan Boots, advocated for creating inclusive classrooms that celebrate students' diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Their presentation aligns perfectly with our college's commitment to preparing educators who can meet the evolving needs of all learners. ? So proud of our faculty and students who go above and beyond in educational research to provide insight on celebrating all of Nashville!
I had the privilege of presenting alongside our exceptional teacher candidate, Meagan Boots, at the 23rd Annual Belmont Humanities Symposium, “Babel: Origins and Ends of Language”. We were grateful to contribute to the conversation on the importance of celebrating multilingualism.
