关于我们
Bellwether is a national nonprofit that exists to transform education to ensure systemically marginalized young people achieve outcomes that lead to fulfilling lives and flourishing communities. We work hand in hand with education leaders and organizations to accelerate their impact, inform and influence policy and program design, and share what we learn along the way. We envision a future where all young people have access to an equitable and excellent education and live lives filled with opportunity. We look to a future where the education system is effective, equitable, and responsive.

Today, 17 U.S. states permit school officials to use corporal punishment — defined by the U.S. Department of Education as “paddling, spanking, or other forms of physical punishment” — as a means of disciplining students. In a new blog post, Christine Dickason, PhD and I analyze the current landscape of school corporal punishment, the practice's associations with student achievement and well-being, and implications for systemically marginalized students. This piece provides the field's most up-to-date policy scan of state public school corporal punishment policies, while also highlighting current strides to abolish the practice. You can check it out at the link below! https://lnkd.in/eEZQSH-a A huge thank you to Mandy Berman, Amber Gorman Walker, Zoe Cuddy, Andy Jacob, Julie Nguyen, and the Bellwether team for helping to develop this piece. Additional gratitude to Todd Hall and Eric Weber for providing invaluable feedback on our work!

I’m incredibly energized after attending Power of Place! Hearing from Governor Wes Moore, Secretary Miguel Cardona, district leaders, and community partners was truly inspiring as they work to drive economic and social mobility for students and communities that need it most. At Bellwether, I’m proud of the work we’re doing to strengthen place-based initiatives nationwide, partnering with educators and leaders to create lasting change. Events like this underscore the power of collaboration and innovation to dramatically improve equitable access to opportunity.
