?? ???? A week ago today on Saturday, Sept. 7, the Bellingham High School band program and dance team were a part of the 71st Annual Husky Band Day festivities at the Washington Husky Football game against Eastern Michigan University. Held annually by UW, Husky Band Day is the longest continuous event of its kind in the country. It is described by the university as follows: “…this annual celebration of the Husky Marching Band and Seattle music lovers everywhere features thousands of local school marching bands, some of whom join the Husky Marching Band on the field for a halftime performance.” The 265-member Husky Marching Band was joined on the field at halftime by 32 bands for a total 2,200 musical guests – the BHS band among them. Beyond the bands, many color guard, cheer and dance members – the BHS dance team among them – were invited as well to put on an impressive halftime performance. The programs had a chance to rehearse alongside high school colleagues from around the state and Canada before the halftime show. #bhamschools #bhampromise

?????????????????? ???????????? ???? ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ???? ???????????? ???????????????? Around 90 children and adults received more than 120 immunizations on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the mobile vaccination clinic at Bellingham High School. Available vaccines included childhood vaccinations like TDAP, MMR and chicken pox, plus seasonal boosters for flu and COVID-19. The clinic, which was open to the public, was co-hosted by BPS and the Washington State Department of Health's Care-a-van. The Care-a-van serves communities all over Washington state, setting up mobile clinics in easy-to-access locations. “We were so happy with the success of the clinic and the partnership with the department of health,” BPS Director of Health Services Preet Singh said. “It was a joy to serve our community this way.” If families missed this clinic, don’t worry: Same-day, walk-in appointments for flu and COVID-19 boosters are available at most pharmacies for ages 12 and up, and we will be hosting another clinic on Wednesday, October 2 — more information soon. #bhamschools #bhampromise

The new school-based health center at Options High School has entered its first full academic year of service following a soft launch in May 2024, representing a nearly realized vision two years in the making. On Tuesday, Sept. 10, a group of Options students, staff and leadership, along with district staff, school board member Jenn Mason and a representative from the Washington State Department of Health, were joined by State Representative Alicia Rule to tour the space, celebrate progress and share conversation while looking forward to more services the health center will soon provide. Rep. Rule assisted in securing state capital funding via the legislature to support the renovations of the medical clinic area, called The Health Center at Options. Students had the opportunity to listen to Rep. Rule explain her role as an elected official and how youth mental health has become an issue with strong support across the state. ???? Tuesday, September 3 was an extra special day at our District Office as it marked the debut of our new Early Learning Center! ?? The inaugural day of childcare at the Early Learning Center coincided with the start of the new school year. The new District Office, funded by voter-supported bonds in 2013 and 2022, opened back in March 2024. Preschool students (ages 3 & 4) attend the ELC. BPS staff provide teaching and childcare. Students served include those whose families qualify for ECEAP (Early Childhood Education Assistance Program) and children of BPS staff members, along with children of teen parents who have graduated from the Graduation, Reality And Dual-role Skills (GRADS) program within the district. The ELC is made possible by community support of school bonds and a state grant. We are so appreciative of our community’s support and the ability to include these two preschool classrooms and early learning spaces as part of the District Office to serve children. #bhamschools #bhampromise

We hosted our annual all-staff kick-off and celebration at Bellingham High School this morning! Staff gathered in One Schoolhouse spirit as we prepare to welcome students for the first day of school tomorrow on Thursday, August 29. Rodolfo Riviere, Dean of Students at Birchwood Elementary, and Alli Chryst, Principal at Shuksan Middle School, were this year's emcee hosts. Rodolfo and Alli shared touching stories of life experiences and the reasons they became educators before Superintendent Greg Baker shared a kick-off address. Before the event, staff were welcomed by cheerleaders and students while high school robotics students showcased their work in the BHS Commons. The event also included student singing performances and the chance to view videos showcasing Promise Award recipients and reflections from the Class of 2024. Here are a few scenes from the morning #bhampromise #OneSchoolhouse
