    ???HIRING - Part 1 - Getting Clear, Creating ScoreCards & Job Descriptions??? On past hires for myself, I did not take the time to create this clarity and it was a dumpster fire. I treated my business as less than a client’s and accepted the first ‘offer to help’ or taking a chance on people who wanted to work with me without being super clear on how, what my expectations are vs. theirs and so much more. It made me dislike opening my slack, whatsapp, click up, email and so on, ultimately not even wanting to be in my business. Hasty hires, cheap hires and not being clear ARE NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE. The right team member will save you time and create more wealth. The wrong team member will rob you of your peace, patience and resources. Now with that… let’s get you the RIGHT hire the first time around starting with clarity. We all like to shortcut processes for optimal output with minimal input, so of course AI has been a huge asset in creating documentation, SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and hiring assets like Job Descriptions, Scorecards, etc. But you have to know the right inputs to get the kind of output and results you’re looking for. And that starts with clarity around the role, responsibilities, company values, ideal candidate and so on.. So when I’m deciding my next hire or on a consult with a client asking what they need / who they’re looking for, I suggest starting with the following prompts on your own and using AI to fill in the gaps. ??1. Define Your Needs - For this, I keep a running list of tasks I want help with, brain dumping at once then keeping it near for about a week to add throughout the day. You’ll be surprised how much more comes up and the clarity of prioritization. - Start with listing your needs / where you want help. - For your team (and often the owner), I like to do a Task Audit of what is being worked on, the department it’s for, time spent, frequency and a rating of task enjoyment to get a better view for delegation. - What are the role responsibilities and expectations you hope this new role will fill? - Where / what department do you really need the help? ??2. Analyze Your Needs / Key Responsibilities - Are these tasks you can delegate to existing team members? - Are these tasks that can be supported with the abundance of AI tech and automations out there? - Which are the priorities to be taken off now? - What will it mean for you and your company if these needs are covered? - What kind of budget could you allocate to have these covered? - What would the title of the role you just outlined be? - Is this person part time, full time, contract based, project based, etc? If you’re not sure, ask ChatGPT. Sometimes it can be multiple where a jack of all trades will fit if you provide the right training and sometimes it’s a very specific position and responsibilities.     What are 3 things on your desk that keep you motivated throughout the day? This is one of my favorite questions to ask candidates and one I highly recommend you incorporate for a number of reasons. 1. Knowing what motivates your team is key to their success and fitting into the company culture. Many people answer with something about their family which if your culture is a family like atmospher, is important. Great leaders often respond with something for / from their team that keeps them connected to their people. Some share about their faith which is a cornerstone of many companies mission and values. While others share insights like their favorite theme park or types of vacations they enjoy, which are great ways to sort out potential in person team building events or incentive for goals are hit. You also hear about how people stay organized and communicate throughout the day like using pomodoro and timers, keeping a list of priorities, a calendar of events for what’s coming, tools for organization to lead their department, team or project, all lending insights to how they operate. You also can weed out people who might not be a fit. For example, if you’re an intense natural health and wellness brand, someone who keeps tobacco on their desk shows they’re already in a high stress state and that they don’t align with your natural methods of resolving that stress meaning they likely don’t walk the walk of the mission. 2. It is one of the top questions that lights people up. It’s something new and fun to respond to, think about and share. I often leave it to the last question because after answering all the others, this is one people get visibly excited to answer, feel seen, heard and appreciated. 3. You get to see who people truly are. It’s personal but not too personal and they share more about themselves in 1 simple question than you get out of other more common questions. Personally, I keep more than 3 that keep me motivated but some of my favorites include: A. A poster card of My Why & What I Commit to Achieve That. B. Photos of adventures with loved ones and my pup. C. Plants and fresh flowers (when I can). It makes me smile and gets me excited to be at my desk rather than working from the couch with my pup, which is my preferred spot for things like writing, feedback, etc. D. Gifts and mementos from colleagues, events and reminders of the community I get to serve. E. Crystals because whether it gives that extra energy or not, I like having things to fiddle with when I’m thinking or on calls. Keeps the ideas flowing. AND one of my new fave multi-goal hacks… The walking desk so I’m getting my 15k/day steps in while I also get work done, move energy and allow better ideas to flow.
