I’m honored to announce that my proposal was accepted to be a presenter at this year’s annual National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) Conference in Boston! This November, I will lead my own poster presentation titled “Navigating Nuance via Structured Academic Controversy: Du Bois & Washington,” that allows high school students to engage with the intellect of both W.E.B Du Bois and Booker T. Washington in a way that produces critical discussion about Black advancement post-emancipation. My goal is to provide fellow educators with a guide to teach students about one of the most important intellectual conflicts in American history, in a way that honors the complexity of the conflict, the historical context in which it is situated, and the complexity of the scholars themselves. Using a classroom activity called “Structured Academic Controversy,” students will be able to practice their abilities to analyze primary sources and use textual evidence to form and support original opinions. A special thank you to Dr. Denney from The University of Indianapolis for providing encouragement and support throughout this entire process. I’m excited to share more as the conference approaches — stay tuned!

I'm deeply grateful to receive the "outstanding family communication" award, which acknowledges my dedication to fostering clear and transparent communication with families. As a teacher, my goal is to ensure every student achieves their goals and thrives in life. This begins with collaborating closely with parents and guardians to design a plan that guides students toward their desired careers post-high school. At Believe Schools Indy we prioritize building enduring relationships with families, involving them in all aspects of their child's education. I'm immensely thankful for learning this skill early in my teaching career. My students have made amazing progress and I'm excited for the future. Many thanks to my mentor teacher and Klipsch Educators College for this recognition.
