Bebe Moore Campbell's pioneering efforts in mental health advocacy broke down barriers and challenged stigma in underserved communities. Her literary works courageously addressed the intersection of racism and mental health, encouraging people of color to share their experiences without shame. Despite her passing in 2006, Campbell's legacy lives on through ongoing advocacy efforts. In 2008, bipartisan support honored her contributions, aiming to increase mental health awareness and access, especially among BIPOC communities historically underserved by healthcare. July was designated as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month by the U.S. House of Representatives.
