What an exciting week in Singapore at #GSTC2024 representing BehaviorSMART. It was incredible to connect with industry leaders and changemakers and to experience Sentosa—a pioneering destination that’s GSTC-certified. It was an absolute honor to be on the panel with Matt Callaghan, Roger Simons, and Eric Ricaurte, discussing Evaluation & Measurement by sharing Behavioral Science’s role in sustainability measurement. I explored how focusing on actions alongside intentions can drive real, measurable impact. A few key moments for me were Randy Durband's perspective that sustainability doesn’t have to be expensive or overwhelming—it starts with small, intentional steps that build into a transformative journey. I also resonated with Winnow's efforts and Marc Zornes’s insights about adapting to diverse contexts: meeting stakeholders where they are rather than just going with what you bring as solutions! David E.’s question—What are we really trying to ‘get back’ to post-COVID?—was a powerful reminder that challenges have always existed—they just shift with time. Finally, Jeffery Smith’s point hit home: as travel businesses may be okay to invest in long-term infrastructure like generators with 30+ year ROIs, but see sustainability actions with a much lesser payback timeline as cost-intensive! Beyond the inspiring conversations, I’m grateful for the meaningful connections made with Anna Rose Feinberg, Enric Casals Brufau, Janos Hando, Jaren Chen, Nils Persson, Iris Lam, Catherine Gilvarry, Neha Arora, and many others. ?? The next step in our journey is underway—participating SMEs are currently reporting the results from their first summer of testing the tactics. ?? As SMEs compile their results, we are gaining an early look at how the tactics performed and identifying areas for improvement. This phase is all about reflection and learning. SMEs will have the opportunity to exchange insights, discuss their findings, and learn from each other’s experiences to help guide their next steps. ?? With this data, coach support and peer feedback, SMEs will plan the necessary adjustments to refine their tactics, ensuring they’re ready for testing in the upcoming summer season. ??
