BSRI COO, Megan Hartman Diaz, recently attended the Wells Fargo Open For Business Fund: Asset Building Program National Cohort convening in Atlanta with our partners The Miami Foundation and Partners For Self-Employment, INC. Open for Business is a three-year, $100 million initiative funded by Wells Fargo that is supporting strategies led by community organizations across the country to prove asset ownership as a strong pathway toward wealth generation for small business owners. Attendees included representatives from Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami. "Bringing everyone together to collaborate, connect, and begin to understand the broader view on measuring impact and integrating lessons learned was invigorating. Hearing from small business owners and experiencing the spaces and the communities they’ve built underscored the impact of the OFB funding for me," shared Megan. #BSRI #DataForAction #smallbusiness #wealthgeneration

This past week, we swapped our desks for the stunning views of Jackson Hole, Wyoming for BSRI’s 2024 Annual Retreat. ?? Surrounded by crisp mountain air and fall foliage, we immersed ourselves in two days of purpose, connection, and growth. ?? From redefining professional excellence to building a shared vision for the future, our team explored bold strategies under this year’s theme: Leaping Forward: Building Foundations, Pushing Boundaries. Interactive sessions like vision boards and workflow design pushed us to think creatively about our work and our impact. ?? We balanced deep conversations with some fun team-building. These moments reminded us that collaboration flourishes when we bring our full selves to the table. Our retreat wasn’t just about what we accomplished—it was about how we did it: together, with trust and intention. As we head into 2025, we’re ready to push boundaries and make an even bigger impact. Members of our team just wrapped up our Leadership Book Series, culminating in the creation of each of their own unique leader personas. The book club allowed members to explore and define their leadership types, personality, motivations and goals. The group read two books: ??The Nine Types of Leader by James Ashton ??The Art of Caring Leadership by ??Heather R Younger, J.D., CSP? One of our favorite insights? “Brands with purpose grow, companies with purpose last, and people with purpose thrive.” Special thanks to Melanie Gonzalez and Shawneaqua Edwards, MSPH, CGW for sharing their perspectives!

How do philanthropic organizations use the data we produce? The data that comes from our evaluations help philanthropic organizations and their grantees to cultivate conversations with boards of directors, the broader community, and each other. Once prepared with concrete data points, we provide them with the tools they need to tell their stories and demonstrate their impact within their communities. For example, we recently worked with Allegany Franciscan Ministries and its Board of Directors to evaluate their impact and inform future organizational priorities, processes, and initiatives. This impact evaluation allowed the organization to reflect and use data and wisdom gained to inform new funding opportunities. #BSRI #DataForAction #Evaluation #Philanthropy
