Finding the Right Talent for the Right Seat: What UNO Taught Me About Recruiting How many of you love a good game of UNO??My nephew Caleb and I play whenever he’s in town, and it always gets competitive! There’s strategy, unexpected twists, and a little bit of luck—but in the end, the best player is the one who thinks ahead. I apply some of those same strategies when sourcing top talent for my clients. The First 100 Days: Establishing Your Leadership Credibility I often tell my clients that the first 100 days in a new leadership role are crucial for establishing credibility and building strong relationships. This period is your opportunity to define your leadership style, create a vision statement, outline your team's goals, and set a clear direction for success. Here's how to make it count: ?? First 30 Days: The Bootcamp You've got the job, now it's game time. Be intentional about observing and understanding team dynamics. Secure early wins, such as implementing a quick process improvement or resolving a lingering team issue. Learn the office culture and schedule one-on-one introductions with key stakeholders to understand their priorities. Establish a regular communication cadence with your team and stakeholders. ?? 60 Days: Building Momentum Now that you're settling in, it's time to ramp up. Deepen your understanding of the business, industry jargon, and internal dynamics. Increase your social capital across departments by completing your first projects and stacking wins. For example, lead a cross-functional initiative or mentor a high-potential team member. This phase is all about impact and building trust. ?? 90 Days: In the Driver's Seat By now, you should be finding your rhythm with fewer questions and more independence. Prepare for your 90-day review with solid results, both qualitative (improved team morale, stronger interdepartmental relationships) and quantitative (increased productivity, cost savings). Good Morning Everyone! ???? I’ve been quiet here on LinkedIn for a while, so I figured it’s time for a little reintroduction! 2024 has truly been a journey. I reinvested in BeEvolvedHR and hired a team to scale the company. We’ve been working with clients as a fractional HR department, helping companies: ??Create HR departments from scratch, ??Audit systems, ??Refine policies, ??Build recruitment processes that secure quality talent, and ??Host employee engagement initiatives to foster positive workplace cultures. One of my favorite parts of this work is coaching – helping executives confront their challenges with confidence and reconnect with their employees. I love rolling up my sleeves and diving into business strategy. After years in HR, I’ve seen firsthand how much the workforce has evolved.
