Can a group of ridiculously talented people crack a ridiculous problem over beers? Our founders Dana Hork and james wood grabbed top marketers, creatives, and communications professionals to find out in our first ever BWF Happy Hour. The brief: give Black Friday a festive makeover with a new name that says, “It’s the holidays—grab deals and good vibes, minus the chaos.” Spoiler: Good vibes won the day. ??
Imagine a Black Friday with no stress, just good vibes. ?? When you spend all day thinking about brands, it’s hard not to notice when things could really use a rebrand. Case in point, Black Friday. Saddled with so much baggage and bad vibes, it’s crazy to think marketers still leverage it at face value. Can’t we do better? That was the challenge we tackled last night at our very first Beers With Friends ?? “Happy Hour” where ridiculously talented people try to solve a ridiculous problem over beers. james wood and I gathered a group of top marketers, creatives, and communications professionals to give Black Friday a festive makeover with a new name that says, “It’s the holidays—grab deals and good vibes, minus the chaos.” From the dozens of ridiculous things we all scribbled down in our cocktail napkin notebooks (Bargain Binge, Snack Friday, Friday Friday Gotta Get Down On Friday, etc), a few ideas rose to the top: ?? For You Friday (FYF): Inspired by TikTok’s For You Page, the day after Thanksgiving is an opportunity for modern brands to engage new generations of consumers with concepts like wellness, self-care, and individualism, encouraging people to do their own thing in their own way (e.g., unplug, meditate, be with friends).? ?? Block Friday: Where everyone would attend giant block parties held in major markets to share food, drink, and music – and participate in a large 'buy nothing' regift exchange. You may not want that scented candle you got last year, but someone else might be stoked to have it. ?? Black Tie Day: If Halloween’s total domination of the fall season has taught us anything, it’s that people want an excuse to get dressed up. So why not make the day after Thanksgiving a formal affair where we don our fanciest looks to partake in any number of activities like taking family photos, shopping in style, or treating friends to a fancy dinner. ??♀? And finally, we all agreed that a more welcome and fitting moniker might be 'Friday. Just Friday." In 2024, year-round deals feel overhyped and always on, so now Black Friday does just feel like any other Friday. Let us know which rebrand you like best ??
