Answering - what is sustainable? | Communications & product consultant | Warming the world since 1989

Proearth by Azorte is a brand that Reliance Retail markets and sells on its website Ajio. It considers itself a pro-earth brand i.e. good for the earth brand. Husband recently ordered a sweatshirt from this brand where the website clearly mentions "100% organic cotton" under the Product Details section. What came to us was a sweatshirt with a tag that said "This garment is made with recycled polyester blend", and the composition was written as 60% cotton and 40% polyester. Photos attached. This happened with 2 other garments. So, 100% organic cotton also includes recycled polyester. Who knew? As you may know, Reliance has also brought back fast-fashion polyester brand Shein to India. Making so many clothes out of polyester is a polluting process and then after these clothes are worn, millions of tons of textile waste end up in landfills or is incinerated. A polyester pandemic has been unleashed, yet again. I wrote about this in a recent edition of Break the Bubble. Link in comments!

A great initiative by Revant Himatsingka (Food Pharmer) - please sign the petition here if you feel Alcohol should also have a nutrition label

Alcohol industry exposed! Every single food and drink company right from biscuits, noodles, chocolates, chips soft drinks all HAVE TO display a nutrition label. But the alcohol industry does NOT have to display any label. Even though water has 0 calories, it is still mandatory for packaged drinking water to display nutrition label. Then why does alcohol have no nutrition label? The answer is lobbying. Alcohol companies strongly lobby for the government to not have labels be mandatory. I understand that even if there was a label, it wouldn’t stop drinkers, but instead of having 3-4 drinks, they would cut back a little bit. Not only nutrition labels, alcohol industry does not even have any warning labels. Just the way cigarettes display a clear warning label, there should be one for alcohol outlining its health risks. Alcohol has become a rampage amongst the youth in India and we need to get together to reduce it’s consumption! That’s why I started a petition to have the government make it mandatory for both of these labels to be on every alcohol bottle. Sign, share, and be a part of the movement! https://lnkd.in/gxvKiczP

The man I am married to ordered a pumpkin from Akshayakalpa Organic recently and it came wrapped in leaves and thread, like my idli order from Udupi Park used to! We order vegetables and fruits (when we can't pick them ourselves in our own grocery bag which happens often) that were grown without chemicals, but the packaging in which they are sometimes delivered bothers me. For instance, Farmizen delivers in bags that they take back. But they sometimes also use multiple paper bags to put vegetables in and if it's a fruit like fig or strawberries, then they use plastic boxes because these fruits get squished easily. Still figuring out an alternative to these but seeing this pumpkin wrapped in leaves today made me realize there could be such simple, effective solutions for some vegetables at least! Love love this idea, Akshayakalpa! Thanks for trying something new (or old?). As a customer, you won my heart with your packaging. #inspiring #sustainability #cleanfood #plasticpackaging #sustainablepackaging #healthyfood cc Ram Chaitanya - another inspiring individual who spends a considerable amount of time helping brands become more sustainable

Billions are spent to convince us we need more. But do we really? Every ad suggests we're missing something, but perhaps we're not. This Black Friday, before getting caught up in the deals, consider: Do you need it, or is it just the allure of a discount? What if, instead of buying more, we decided to: - Let go of the idea that we're incomplete without new things. - Ignore the pressure to follow trends that don't serve us. - Separate our worth from what we own. Our constant demand for more—from fashion to technology—is depleting natural resources and impacting the environment. Every product carries hidden costs, from the energy used to produce it to the waste left behind. This year, we can choose differently. Let's shop consciously. Purchase what truly adds value. Support brands that care for people and the planet. Here's to making meaningful choices. #Sustainability #BlackFriday #MindfulShopping #GreenLiving

We’re just a few days away from the U.S. Elections, with over 2,000 seats on the line, including the presidency itself. Apart from many crucial issues like the economy and global affairs, the stakes couldn’t be higher for climate action. This election will shape the policies and commitments at every level of government, from federal climate legislation to state and local clean energy initiatives. Now is the time for U.S. citizens to educate themselves about the climate policies of each of the presidential candidates, as well as seats up and down the ballot. To ensure the strongest climate advocates are elected, make sure you’re informed on what each candidate is proposing: Read Campaign Platforms: Most candidates outline their climate plans on their websites. Use Nonpartisan Resources: Platforms like Ballotpedia, League of Conservation Voters, and Vote411 offer breakdowns of candidates’ environmental records and policies. Local and National News: Many news outlets provide comparisons of candidates’ positions on climate, helping you see who’s prioritizing action and who’s not. This election matters, and every vote counts. Make sure you, and everyone you know, are ready to vote for climate action.
