Feelings aren’t your enemy; they’re messengers. Suppressing emotions like anger or sadness might be the easiest way to cope, but it can also dull your ability to experience positive ones like joy and excitement. Instead of bottling them up, take a moment to pause and ask yourself, What am I feeling right now? Acknowledging and naming your emotions is the first step toward processing them in a healthy, constructive way—and ultimately, taking back control. ???? Sometimes, the key to fostering open communication in a team is understanding "the story I'm telling myself." By saying, "The story I'm telling myself about what's going on with our team is…" and sharing your perspective, you create a safe space for your teammates to respond and share their interpretations. This simple approach can help bridge misunderstandings and build empathy. Instead of jumping to conclusions, it allows for a gentle exploration of potential issues and opens the door for more compassionate conversations. #BecomingALeaderWorthFollowing #TeamCommunication #LeadershipTips #ConflictResolution #ALeaderWorthFollowing

Great work Michael E Easley on narrating your own audiobook! We hear that having authors read their own books helps makes the message even more impactful. Now available on Apple Books, Audible, and Audiobooks.com with more to come.
Leaders Worth Following have a knack for being curious and asking why.? That curiosity helps them get through failures by asking themselves “Why?” instead of first jumping into the middle of a self created powerful shame storm. It can be so easy to create a mindset of “I am not good enough, smart enough, or whatever enough.? Instead of looking at failures as mistakes, look at them as opportunities by using a bit of reframing. If you can understand what's going on inside of you by understanding your emotions you can sit with a really uncomfortable feeling long enough to learn what it is trying to teach you. Leaders that can sit with uncomfortable feelings and not freak out, have a better chance of reframing and reshaping their outlook by being curious and looking at things as learning opportunities. Here is a short clip from the Becoming A Leader Worth Following audio book that talks about understanding the difference between guilt and shame and how our growing self awareness can help us on our journey in Becoming A Leader Worth Following.

Self-awareness is the cornerstone of effective leadership. It helps you strike the perfect balance between responsibility and independence. By understanding the impact of your decisions on others, you take ownership of not just outcomes but also your team's well-being. This awareness empowers you to delegate effectively—knowing when to lead and when to step back, allowing others to grow. Leaders who nurture self-awareness are better equipped to foster a culture where responsibility and independence thrive, aligning both the team and the organization toward shared success. Thanks you Michael E Easley for expanding on the topics of self awareness and empathy and reminding us about these two characteristics of A Leader Worth Following. #becomingaleaderworthfollowing
Leaders Worth Following have Self-Awareness You have self-awareness when you are aware of your impact on others, but self-awareness needs to be tempered by Empathy. Empathy is the ability to feel what others are feeling. It is different from recognizing what other people are feeling, it is actually feeling what they are feeling in your own body. This can be painful and even traumatic for some people. Especially if they are not able to remember that those feelings are not theirs and that they belong to someone else. Some people, like my sister, are so empathetic that they feel what others are feeling and experience it so deeply and so strongly that it can be overwhelming and trauma inducing. Additionally, on any given day, anyone can be overwhelmed by feelings coming from others, its called being human. Leaders who have self-awareness and empathy know how their leadership and decisions impact others and care about the feelings of others. ps...I have included a recent Instagram post from my sister that sums up this wonderful, and sometimes difficult, concept of Self-Awareness. #becomingaleaderworthfollowing

True leadership involves creating an environment where open conversations are encouraged and valued. By fostering a culture where team members feel comfortable voicing concerns and addressing issues directly, leaders demonstrate a commitment to both responsibility and independence. This approach empowers individuals to seek solutions on their own, resolves conflicts effectively, and builds a cohesive team culture where everyone feels responsible for contributing to collective success. When voices are heard and valued, the whole team thrives. Understanding your team's wake—the impact of their actions and behaviors—is crucial to effective leadership. As a leader, your commitment to taking responsibility doesn't just influence your immediate team but creates a ripple effect across the entire organization. By owning both successes and challenges, you model the behavior you want to see in others. This sense of responsibility fosters a positive wake, cultivating a culture where accountability is valued and independence is encouraged, ultimately driving collective success.
