The Black Economic Council of Massachusetts (BECMA) extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us at the 2024 Mass Black Expo at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center! The Mass Black Expo 2024: Building Black Wealth - Empowering Black Voices, brought together Black-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals for impactful conversations on the key issues driving Black wealth-building. From access to capital and environmental justice to brand development, supplier diversity, homeownership, and capacity-building resources, attendees explored pathways to economic empowerment. This event was also a unique space to network, share ideas, and strategize toward a more inclusive and thriving economy. BECMA remains deeply committed to fostering an equitable Massachusetts economy. Thank you for making this event a success—your support was invaluable!

On Day 9 of Women's History Month, we celebrate Dr. Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander, the first Black woman in the U.S. to earn a Ph.D. in economics. She used her expertise to advocate for fair wages and workplace equity for Black workers. On Day 7 of Women's History Month, BECMA shines a spotlight on India Rose! In 2019, India created the Martha's Vineyard Black-Owned Business Directory, a digital platform, in response to summer visitors reaching out to her for Black-Owned business referrals. She recognized the importance of her knowledge of the business community, having grown up on the Vineyard and being a year-round resident. In addition to her directory, India is a Business & Nonprofit Consultant, and she owns two clothing brands called Sideline and Martha's Vineyard Streetwear Co. She has also been featured in Black Enterprise Magazine. #WomenHistoryMonth #Herstory

On Day 6 of Women's History Month, we celebrate #BECMABoardMember Courtney Brunson, Esq. Courtney is a passionate advocate for economic mobility and opportunity. She currently serves as the Director of the Greater Boston Partnership to Close the Racial Wealth Gap, a 40+ member cross-sector group convened by the Boston Foundation. This group's mission is to increase wealth for underserved households and communities of color in the Greater Boston area. Throughout her career, Courtney has focused on protecting and expanding economic equity and political access for disenfranchised communities. Her work includes impact litigation, legal aid, and client consulting in areas such as fair housing, labor and employment, and campaign finance and ethics law. Additionally, she has extensive experience in local, state, and national policy and community engagement, working with nonprofit organizations and federal legislative offices. Courtney has been quoted in the Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, Worcester Business Journal, and Harvard Law Today for her insights and work on economic policy. #WomenHistoryMonth
