On September 16, THE 577 FOUNDATION celebrated the grand opening of their 577 Courtyard Garden Oasis with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The foundation's mission to foster a creative and compassionate community through curiosity and lifelong learning has culminated in this extraordinary oasis, which is open to all. Beckett & Raeder had the privilege of providing landscape architecture services for this esteemed project. It is with great enthusiasm that we share in the excitement of this momentous occasion.

The Mackinac Island Transportation Master Plan won a Michigan ASLA Merit Award in Planning. The award was presented at the Michigan ASLA annual conference on September 12th in Detroit. BRI is honored to have worked on this project and we would like to congratulate all of those involved! We are extremely excited to announce that the Caledonia Charter Township M-37 Corridor Sub-Area Plan has been awarded the 2024 Outstanding Urban Design Award. The Michigan Association of Planning will bestow this honor on Caledonia Charter Township at MAP’s annual planning conference later this month. BRI congratulates Caledonia Charter Township and thanks them for their dedicated involvement. Missouri Chapter of American Planning Association jurors who evaluated the submission remarked, “The proactive nature of the plan sets it apart. Taking time before development pressures to work with the land owners and the public ahead of time.” This honor marks the 26th MAP Award for Beckett & Raeder. The Michigan Association of Planning will bestow this honor on Sanilac County at MAP’s annual planning conference later this month. BRI congratulates Sanilac County and thanks them for their committed & enthusiastic involvement. Missouri Chapter of American Planning Association jurors who evaluated the submission remarked, “Planning for rural areas is often overlooked, and this plan is outstanding for addressing this inadequacy of the planning profession in general. This plan does an outstanding job of providing the county government and other municipalities in the county with a common roadmap for the future .. “ This honor marks the tenth Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan for Beckett & Raeder, Inc. I have read ~200 plans this year: climate action plans, PCAPs, RTMPs, sustainability plans, you name it—I've read it! I am currently reading the City of Warren Master Plan from 2021 and want to share this beautiful snippet from the introduction: "Systems which were optimized to serve practices rooted in the Industrial Revolution are now in some cases asked to do an about face: natural features as assets to be enhanced and supported rather than to be exploited and mitigated; the “single-family home” as an option among an array of habitats rather than the singular achievement valued by all responsible adults; infrastructure and ecosystem services as complementary and balanced rather than the total replacement of nature with concrete. Warren’s strengths, including its size and its economic success, make it a formidable ship to turn, but they also provide the resources with which it can be done."
