The Becker's Education Team was thrilled to be a part of this online presentation along with Christian Bellissimo hosted by Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe for nearly 300 early childhood professionals in the Miami-Dade/Monroe County area.
What an energizing #SuperSaturday with the team from Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe, Becker's School Supplies, Christian Bellissimo, Play Therapist, and nearly 300 early childhood professionals from the Miami-Dade/Monroe county area! Thank you for the invitation, ELCMDM! Christian kicked off the day by sharing how a specific set of adult play interaction skills can help support children's social emotional learning. Then for the second half, Christine Murray and I shared the (not so) secret recipe for creating a place-based solution that supports the development of children's self-regulation skills. Christine bravely stepped up to practice setting limits on Christian's behaviors during play and Steven Slaughter (Julius) helped us respond to the 'chat on fire' by feeding us the insightful comments and questions from the educators who joined us. Early years educators are often challenged by the behaviors of young children who either don't yet have the words to communicate or struggle to access them when they need them. Having supported my own three children through an early speech delay, an auditory processing disorder and autism-related selective mutism, I am a HUGE advocate for helping educators and families understand the influence of regulation on communication!
