?? Certificate Achieved: Beck Institute Group Supervision Program
As I continue through the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy's certification process, I’m proud to share that I’ve completed the Group Supervision Program—and with it, I’ve experienced a meaningful shift in both my confidence and competence in delivering cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Occupational Therapists are among the regulated health professionals in Ontario, Canada who are authorized to practice psychotherapy. CBT is a great fit for OT practice, with its structured, practical, and collaborative approach that can be directly applied to improving a client’s activity engagement, function, and overall quality of life.
I’ll be honest—like many clinicians, I initially believed I was “doing CBT” after attending workshops, completing courses, reading self-help books, receiving some on-the-job training, and having occasional supervision. But the Beck Institute’s world-class training offered a new level of depth, structure, and fidelity. The use of the Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale – Revised (CTRS-R) helped ensure my sessions adhered to CBT principles and delivered CBT therapy as it was truly intended.
Through the group supervision process, I worked closely with Dr. Robert Hindman (Psychologist) and fellow clinicians to support each other’s development. We submitted session recordings, developed case conceptualizations, and engaged in meaningful case discussions.
My Key Learning Outcomes:
? Developed and applied case conceptualizations using the Beck model
? Delivered structured, principle-based CBT sessions with feedback using the CTRS-R
? Practiced guided discovery and Socratic questioning with more precision
? Improved session structure (agenda setting, feedback, action plan review, and treatment planning)
? Improved confidence in identifying underlying assumptions, and changing a client's negative core beliefs about themselves, others, and the world
? Using CBT in my clinical reasoning across a range of clinical presentations.
? Improved clinical outcomes for my clients in achieving their goals
This experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to continue deepening my CBT practice as I work toward full certification.
