ICYMI: Women's History Month is almost over, but it's still the "Season of the Woman" here at the Bechtler! Our curator, Katia Zavistovski (left) was interviewed on WBTV's QC Life recently, and she talked about all the ways we've been showcasing women and lifting up female artists. Our spring show, "Virginia Jaramillo: Principle of Equivalence," is the latest example, but there is so much more. From artist talks to exhibitions to our museum staff, we are dedicated to expanding the narrative of global modernism. https://lnkd.in/efKjxcRx #BechtlerMoMA #modernart #seasonofthewoman #virginiajaramillo
关于我们
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, a gem in the Southern art landscape and in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, is devoted to European and American modern art and its legacies. The cornerstone of its holdings are works collected by the Zürich-based Bechtler family and gifted to the museum by Andreas Bechtler and his family, who have long called Charlotte home. Represented here are some of the most influential figures of 20th century modernism, including Alberto Giacometti, Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso and Barbara Hepworth. Now in its second decade, the museum is focused on the global scope of modernism, with changing exhibitions that feature both well-known and underrepresented modernist artists as well as living artists. The museum building, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, features Niki de Saint Phalle’s iconic Le Grand Oiseau de Feu sur l’Arche (The Firebird) on its entrance plaza. The Bechtler also serves as a hub for live music, artist talks, cocktail hours for young creatives and family events. For more: www.bechtler.org.

Our Bechtler 2025 Gala is less than two weeks away! We can't wait to celebrate with all our supporters who love art and appreciate what the Bechtler means to Charlotte. Our board member C. Hunter Widener, CFP? shared some photos of him and his wife, Joy, enjoying previous galas and expressed what motivates him to be part of our mission. "We have one of the top modern art museums in the country," he said. "Our city attracts new residents from all over the country and the fact that we have a museum of this caliber provides them with exposure to world-class art, right here in Charlotte." Come dressed to party, next Friday, April 4, at 7:30 pm. If you can't attend, consider making a donation to support our exhibitions and programming, or becoming a sponsor. In case you missed The Charlotte Observer's arts newsletter this morning from Adam Bell, we'll tell you the scoop: The Bechtler has made history with its very first purchase of a piece of art — an abstract, untitled painting by?Clare Rojas (pictured below) that was featured in our recent exhibition, “Clare Rojas: Past the Present.” We also acquired two donated works — a mixed media sculpture of antique music boxes by Dario Robleto called “I’m Not So Sure The World Deserves You” and “Wicked,” a painting by Julie Curtiss that is part of our current exhibition, "Chance Encounters: Surrealism Then and Now." Todd D. Smith, our executive director, called the three acquisitions “an exciting next chapter for the Bechtler." We'll share more in the coming weeks! #BechtlerMoMA #modernart #clarerojas Image credit: Clare Rojas,?Untitled, 2019, Oil on linen.?Museum purchase with funds provided by?Barrie Benson, Sheryl Bucci, Lisa Dargan,?Liz Faison,?Olga Faison, Molly Froelich, Laura Grace, Lucy Hardison, Chandra Johnson, Mary Margaret Porter, Linda Foard Roberts, and Liz Simmons. 2025.02.001

The Bechtler's annual gala is only about three weeks away, and we can't wait to see you there. The theme is "Vintage Carnival" and you can still get tickets at this link: https://lnkd.in/eEU4P2kX. Your ticket purchase - or donation if you are unable to attend - helps support our collection and community programming. Our board member Tanja Bechtler, a cellist who is the artistic director of Bechtler Ensemble, said the gala is a fun way to mingle with friends and get to know new people while surrounded by beautiful art. "There will also be a fortune teller and a palm reader and dance music as always," she shared about this year's gala. "I’m looking forward to seeing many familiar and new faces at this circus-themed party where you can come in your original outfit." #bechtlerMoMA #BechtlerGala #modernart #vintagecarnival Pictured: Tanja, far right.
