?? ??? This just in from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory: El Capitan has officially been verified as the world’s fastest supercomputer! ? ??? El Capitan is the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)’s first exascale supercomputer, capable of performing more than one quintillion calculations per second. To put that in perspective, you would need more than one million cellphones to equal the power of El Capitan. This cutting-edge resource advances nuclear weapon scientific discovery, providing the computational power that’s essential to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent system. ? For nearly 20 years, our #Bechtel team has proudly managed and operated Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, supporting its mission to develop new technology for national security and defense, maintain the nuclear stockpile, and drive innovation in energy and science. #LLNL in collaboration with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Hewlett Packard Enterprise and AMD have officially unveiled El Capitan, as the world's most powerful supercomputer and first #Exascale machine dedicated to #NationalSecurity. With a sustained performance of 1.742 exaFLOPs and peak performance of 2.79 exaFLOPs on the #Top500SuperComp, El Capitan becomes one of the first #HPC machines to surpass the 2 exaFlOP barrier! https://lnkd.in/g6kdJ2wZ

?? Earlier today, we shared that we’ve been selected by Rio Tinto to deliver the Copperton Phase 2 Solar project in Utah, which will provide clean energy to help power operations at the Kennecott mine—one of the world’s largest open-pit copper mines. This project reinforces both Rio Tinto and #Bechtel’s shared commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Scott Austin, Bechtel’s General Manager of Renewables & Clean Power shared his excitement about this project: “We’re pleased to build on our longstanding partnership with Rio Tinto by expanding into clean energy. This project demonstrates climate commitments in action, and we look forward to working together on this innovative renewable power solution.” Scheduled for completion in late 2025, Copperton Phase 2 Solar will generate 25 megawatts of power, and together with the neighboring 5-megawatt Phase 1, will reduce carbon emissions by 21,000 tons of CO2 every year (the equivalent to removing around 5,000 gas-powered cars from the road ??), and create new construction jobs. ??? Our #Bechtel team will leverage its digital delivery methods and autonomous technologies—setting a new standard for clean energy innovation. ?? At Bechtel, we’re committed to building a cleaner, more sustainable world. This week, Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) ?? reached new heights, growing 80 feet with the successful installation of the tower chair’s primary steel — another step in our journey to support NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Space Launch System. This critical subassembly now sits safely atop ML2’s base, designed to bear the load of the entire tower and ensure its structural integrity. ? The chair is a critical transition point between the base and the tower, which will together support over 50 complex systems that interface between the SLS Block 1B rocket and launch site infrastructure. During launch, the chair will support the tower as it withstands a launch environment of greater than 2,200 degrees F, blast pressures of more than 130 psi, and thrust of more than 8.9 million pounds. ? The installation required a complex rigging operation. Using two cranes, the ML2 team of riggers, ironworkers, and engineers worked together to choreograph the lift of subassemblies weighing up to 260,000 pounds — pushing the cranes to over 90% of their load capacity. ?? ? Up next: stacking Tower Module 4 by the end of the year! Another key milestone in advancing the Artemis IV mission to send astronauts to the moon and Mars. ? ??? ??♀??? Earlier this week, we shared that our Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass Joint Venture (BPBGJV) team is partnering with the Welding Technology and Robotics programs at Ignite Academy in Richmond and Berea, Kentucky, to equip students with the skills they need to excel in construction and beyond! "We want to develop the future workforce that companies will need as this community continues to grow," said BPBGJV Project Manager Joseph Curcio, PMP. "This donation will help Madison County students acquire new and valuable skills as they pursue careers in construction and other industries." ? Students, like second year Ignite Academy North student Jacob Sommers, had the chance to share how this program has helped him develop not only a strong work ethic but also a desire to contribute to his community. “The materials and resources we've been able to have and the support we've been able to have as a school for these careers and technical classes has impacted not just me, but all of the people here, I believe,” Sommers said. “I’d just like to thank Bechtel Parsons for all that they do for us.” ?? ? Our commitment to investing in Madison County-area students began in 2008 with annual teacher grants for innovative #STEM ?? activities and scholarships for students. ? At Bechtel, we are committed to supporting the local communities where we live and work, particularly when it comes to creating opportunities for the next generation of skilled talent. This morning, we shared important news for our construction colleagues: Together with our partners at Fluor Corporation, Turner Construction Company, North America's Building Trades Unions, Kiewit, Clark Construction Group, DPR Construction, Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., and Skanska, we are joining forces and forming a new CEO Advisory Council to confront the crisis of suicide in the construction industry. ?? The new CEO council will collaborate with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to assess current mental health programs, identify support gaps, and develop new initiatives tailored to the unique challenges our workforce faces. ???: "Suicide prevention and mental health are issues that touch everyone in the construction industry," shared #Bechtel chairman and CEO Brendan Bechtel. "Just like with worksite safety, nothing is proprietary when it comes to saving lives. My fellow industry leaders share this belief and by joining this council, they’ve shown that they are committed to working together to find solutions. I’m deeply grateful for their participation as founding partners. The more we can engage a broad group of leaders and collaborate on solutions, the more effective we will be in providing our people the support they need. We owe it to them, to our colleagues, and to their families to find solutions and prevent these tragedies." ICYMI: In March, Bechtel announced a new partnership with AFSP to take this issue head on, with an initial goal of reaching 500,000 U.S. construction workers over the next five years. At that time, #Bechtel chairman and CEO Brendan Bechtel emphasized that "we cannot face this challenge alone" and called on other industry leaders to join us. Today, we're proud to share this important step in coming together. Thank you to our founding members: David Constable, Chairman and CEO of Fluor; Peter Davoren, Chairman, President and CEO of Turner Construction Company; Sean Mcgarvey, President of North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU); Richard Kennedy, President and CEO of Skanska; Rick Lanoha, President and CEO of Kiewit; Robby Moser, CEO of Clark Construction; George Pfeffer, CEO of DPR Construction, and Donald Allan Jr., President and CEO of Stanley Black & Decker for joining us in this fight. Real change will take all of us. Learn more: ?? https://lnkd.in/emwfCEFk
