BACC Celebrates Women in Business Today we celebrate, Urban River Spirits 1. How long have you been in business? We founded Urban River Spirits in June of 2023. 2. What brought you to this path? Michelle enjoys entertaining, and making cocktails but found that she couldn't enjoy the festivities. One Easter Sunday, she created her first mixer and it was a hit. After that, researching and developing the mixers we all know as Urban River Spirits began, and in June of 2023 Michelle instant messaged Jackie and said "I want to start a business!". Jackie replied, "How about you wait a minute and we can talk about this because you are starting an MBA program and that will be a heavy load". The response was immediate..." The company name is Urban River Spirits, and we will make cocktail mixers. And here is the EIN number. I will look into bank accounts and insurance next." Jackie, with a stunned look on her face (so Michelle assumes) said, "oh right now!?!". The rest is history! Dedicated to bringing fun and unique flavors is what sets Urban River Spirits apart, and we are dedicated to providing the most flavorful mixer we can so you can sip, sip, and enjoy! 3. What has been your biggest obstacle? All of our mixers are mixed and poured by hand, we self-distribute, which can be difficult to keep up with the demand. Although we wouldn't have it any other way! 4. What has been your biggest/proudest achievement? Our customers! When they share a fun memorable story or come back for their must have flavor, those moments never get old. In fact, we always come back to the shop after an event or market and share those stories. They keep us going in the moments when we have felt like giving up. Also, opening our store and having so many people share in that day, including Michelle's late father, Jim who passed away suddenly in September of 2024. 5. Tell me one thing you wish everyone knew about being a woman-owned business. It doesn't matter that we are women, we are capable of building our company, doing it with integrity and compassion for those around us. That being a women-owned business is our superpower! #BACC #WomenInBusiness #Celebrate
