For the fourth installment of our Native American Heritage Month series, we continue to honor and celebrate the connections Indigenous communities maintain with Bears Ears National Monument. This week, we’re spotlighting the Navajo Nation, recognizing their enduring relationship with the Bears Ears landscape and the cultural teachings passed down through generations that sustain their identity and way of life. The Bears Ears region– known as Shash Jaa’ in Diné Bizaad– is a living cultural landscape where sacred ceremonies are performed, prayers are offered, and traditional knowledge is passed down. Protecting Bears Ears is about far more than protecting land; it is about safeguarding a legacy of spiritual, cultural, and ecological harmony that is vital to the wellbeing of their people and future generations. As we approach the conclusion of Native American Heritage Month, we invite you to reflect on the shared responsibility to protect and honor the lands that hold such deep significance for Tribal communities. Join us next Friday as we highlight the Hopi Tribe and their connection to Bears Ears, concluding our celebration of the five Tribes of the Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #NAHM #ProtectBearsEars

  • Tribal sovereignty lies at the heart of Bears Ears National Monument. For generations, our ancestors have fought for and cared for these sacred lands, and we continue that vital stewardship today. During his first term, President Trump reduced Bears Ears by 85%, over 1.1 million acres, endangering our cultural and spiritual heritage. The five Tribes remain unwavering in our commitment to protecting this sacred landscape. Through years of hard work, we established a collaborative management relationship with federal agencies, ensuring Tribal voices guide the protection of Bears Ears. Now, we need your support to uphold Tribal leadership and safeguard this monumental effort. Your donation directly supports the Tribes in their mission to protect and preserve Bears Ears National Monument. Every donation makes a difference. ??: Don Rommes

  • For Native American Heritage Month, we are continuing to honor, recognize, and uplift the deep connections Indigenous communities hold with Bears Ears National Monument. This week, we’re spotlighting the Ute Indian Tribe and their enduring connection to the Bears Ears landscape. For thousands of years, the Ute people have lived in and journeyed through the Bears Ears region, moving with the seasons and caring for the land’s unique resources. Across the landscape, stories have been passed down that guide them in finding food, water, and medicine while respecting the balance necessary to sustain life. To the Ute Indian Tribe, Bears Ears is more than land; it is a sacred connection to their ancestors, traditions, and future generations. This landscape is woven into the fabric of Ute people, preserving a worldview that ties nature, culture, and community together. Today, the Ute Indian Tribe is dedicated to protecting this heritage, ensuring that their Traditional Indigenous Knowledge continues to guide and support future generations. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #NAHM #ProtectBearsEars

  • The Bears Ears Inter-Tribal Coalition stands united in opposing any efforts to dismantle protections for Bears Ears National Monument. With a second Trump presidency looming, we are committed to ensuring that Tribal nations remain central to the land's management. Our ancestral lands must be preserved, not opened up for destruction. Regardless of yesterday's election results, the five Tribes remain steadfast in their commitment to protect Bears Ears National Monument, honoring its cultural and spiritual significance for future generations, but we need your help. Donate today to support the Tribes’ work! ??: Tim Peterson
