(FALL FTX 2024 DAY 1) 71 cadets from Morgan State and Coppin State participated in the Fall FTX, a comprehensive training program that encompassed individual, team, squad, and platoon training events. This photograph captures the indomitable spirit of our MS1, 2, 3, and 4 cadets. Despite the challenging conditions, including cold temperatures and fatigue, they displayed remarkable grit and determination. Their unwavering commitment to their mission was evident as they demonstrated the heart and skills necessary to adapt, overcome obstacles, and prioritize the safety of their troops. On the first day of Fall FTX, the cadets were reminded of the fundamental principles of drill and ceremony, land navigation, and patrol tactics. Partners from the Maryland National Guard, including drill sergeants, infantry soldiers, and officers, provided valuable guidance and assistance. Their expertise helped the cadets grasp the importance of these essential skills and instilled in them a sense of discipline and order. The Fall FTX training program was a testament to the dedication and hard work of our cadets. Their unwavering commitment to their mission and their willingness to learn and grow showcased their potential as future leaders and military personnel. #AlumSpotlight The Bear Battalion is pleased to highlight the accomplishments of 2nd Lieutenant Melina D.omenech of the United States Army Military Police Corps. 2nd Lieutenant Domenech is one of the Bear Battalion’s most recent and highly esteemed alumnus, having graduated and commissioned earlier this year in May. A native of New York, she enlisted directly from high school in 2017 as a 68T Animal Care Specialist, where she was affectionately known as “SGT D.” During her tenure with the Bear Battalion, 2nd Lieutenant Domenech served as the Spring 2024 Battalion Commander, demonstrating her exceptional leadership and planning abilities. She oversaw several significant movements, including the annual Joint Field Training Exercise, which managed the operations and training of over 200 cadets from various ROTC programs within the 4th Brigade. 2nd Lieutenant Domenech recently completed the MP Basic Officers Leaders Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and has since deployed to the field, serving and protecting our fellow service members with unwavering dedication. The Bear Battalion extends its salutations to 2nd Lieutenant Domenech and best wishes for continued success in her future endeavors. Happy 157th Birthday to our National Treasure! Today at 11:00 a.m., the University will hold its Annual Founders Day Convocation in Murphy Fine Arts Building, Gilliam Concert Hall, to honor the five (5) visionary founders of this institution. We are excited to have Morgan alum, Lt. General (Ret.) R. Scott Dingle, former Surgeon General of the U.S. Army, as our Keynote Speaker. In moments like what we are experiencing today, we must never forget the struggles our ancestors endured—without ever giving up or giving in—to create this jewel in American higher education. At Morgan, we honor the past but with no desire to re-live it. We are not going back… it’s Forward Morgan for us.

#cadetofthemonth Congratulations to MS3 Cadet Anthony Edmond, recipient of the Armed Bank Award this summer at Cadet Summer Training Basic Camp Second Regiment. Cadet Edmonds was chosen amongst 600 of his peers due to his outstanding leadership skills and ability to have a direct impact on others, the very same qualities that he shows every day among his peers. #AlumSpotlight The Bear Battalion is honored to spotlight COL Roger M. Cabiness II Director of Media Relations for the U.S. Army Officer of Chief of Public Relations. Colonel Cabiness II, a U.S. Army officer with over 24 years of strategic, operational, and broadening experiences, is a public affairs professional. Colonel Cabiness currently serves as the Director of Media Relations for the U.S. Army Office of Chief of Public Affairs. He previously held positions as the Director of Press Operations and senior military assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. Cabiness received his commission through ROTC at Morgan State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in telecommunications in 2000. He holds a master’s degree in communications management from Webster University and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College. Before transitioning to public affairs, Cabiness served as an Army logistician for eight years, commanding the 536th Maintenance Company and supporting operations in Hawaii and Germany. He deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II and Kosovo during Operation Joint Guardian. Colonel Cabiness has earned numerous military awards and decorations, including two Bronze Star Medals, four Meritorious Service Medals, and an Army Commendation Medal. He credits the Bear Battalion as the center of his Army career, and his cadet experience set the stage for the next 25 years. He even met his future wife in the ROTC building. Professor Joseph C. Bozeman, Jr., challenged him immensely, and the cadet corps fostered a unique comradery that prepared him for life outside of Morgan. Retired General William "Kip" Ward and former U.S. Ambassador Dr. Robin Sanders visited Morgan State University to speak with ROTC and Political Science students about the importance of the U.S.- Africa partnership. LTG (Ret) Ward, who served as the first Black Combatant Commander (AFRICOM), emphasized the need to think globally, act locally, and serve in any capacity. He highlighted the critical role both government and civil organizations play in driving change, using the example of Peace Corps volunteers and their lifesaving work around the world. AMB (Ret) Sanders, who served as U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria and Congo under the Bush and Obama administrations, discussed the significance of building strong relationships with African nations. She noted that Africa is experiencing a population boom, accounting for half of the global population increase, and is expected to represent 40% of the world’s population by 2100. As Morgan State continues to recruit and attract international talent from Africa and beyond, we are reminded of the importance of global collaboration. Everyone can contribute to positive change by thinking globally while acting locally.
