We sent a mini BearJam team of two to capture the fun of this year’s Microscope Ball, the flagship fundraising event for Muscular Dystrophy UK. ?? Over 110,000 people in the UK live with muscle-wasting conditions that don’t have a cure. This year was the 40th anniversary of the event and they raised an incredible £511,457! Occasionally we film professional actors on set. But more often than not, we’re filming people who have never been in front of a camera before. And the faster we can put them at ease and build up their confidence, the better the result for everyone. Our founder, James, is a pro at creating a relaxed environment that gets the best out of the people we’re shooting. So we asked him to share his secrets. ?? Here’s his step-by-step approach to making it happen: 1. Clear communication ? “Before we even start, I explain what the shoot is for and what we’re hoping to capture. When people understand the bigger picture, they feel more connected to the process, not just as subjects but as part of the team.” 2. Build trust ? “Next, it’s time to quickly build a rapport, so they trust that you’re there to make them look and feel their best. This sets the foundation for everything that follows.” 3. ‘Minimise the room’ ? “Having fewer people in the room is key. Cameras, lights, and mics are already intimidating enough—extra bodies just add to the pressure. Keeping things minimal helps to keep nerves in check.” 4. Offer reassurance ? “Once we’re ready to shoot, I like to offer reassurance. A simple line like “We’re here to make you look good” can work wonders for calming nerves and reinforcing that we’re all on the same team.” 5. Show the shot ? “When possible, I’ll show the person how they’re framed. It’s amazing how seeing the shot themselves can demystify the process and give them more confidence. It also lets them feel in control of how they are being captured.” 6. Be agile ? “If we’re not quite getting what we need, sometimes it’s because the person is too focused on delivering perfect wording. At this point, it’s all about agility — encouraging them to relax, be spontaneous, and not worry too much about getting everything perfect.” —- ?? We make BOLD POWERFUL VIDEOS?? ?? A legendary club with a lasting legacy ?? It was an honour to work on this video project for Rosslyn Park F.C! With a tight budget and a one-day shoot, we successfully managed to capture 150 years of history. Keep an eye out for our two creative highlights: a match cut sequence showing the name Rosslyn Park, and a team photo built from players from across the decades. Back in May, we headed out to Mercedes’s Brackley Operations Centre to film the second episode of our Anatomy of Craft series for UBS. And here’s the result!? The aim was to showcase how innovation and human craft combine to create a competitive advantage, from cutting-edge automotive design to market intelligence. We spent a few hours filming with James Allison, Technical Director at Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, and later with Daniel V. You can’t see our rate card. Because… we don’t have one! And that’s not because our pricing is expensive, random, or secretive (it’s none of these!). It’s because we need to cost up each job to order, and we can’t do that without talking to you first. Even two videos that look similar on the surface will have subtle differences that can have a big impact on the end price. “Set menu pricing” doesn’t translate to a great video, which is what we’ll always prioritise. We much prefer to work à la carte. You will still get great value and your quote will still show a full breakdown of exactly what’s being spent where, so you’re never in the dark. We can get creative for a small budget, or scale up to tackle bigger ones. We’ve done plenty of both, and received brilliant client feedback (not to mention awards!). We also include unlimited edits as standard with every project because we want you to be completely in love with the end result.
