Do you ever think, "Hiring could be smoother, more connected, and, dare I say, more... nurturing?" ?? We’ve got so many amazing humans out there looking for the right fit, but the process? It can be a mess. Enter technology. At Applied we are all about making hiring a whole lot better—efficiency without sacrificing connection. So, here’s an idea: let’s use tech to make hiring feel less like an exhausting sprint and more like a well-paced journey towards finding the right people. On February 6th, we’re hosting a LinkedIn webinar to explore just that. We’ll look into: ?How to make hiring faster, fairer, and still human-centric. ?The tools that help you say goodbye to guesswork and hello to clarity. ?And real strategies that nurture great candidate relationships (spoiler: no need to compromise on empathy!). If you're in HR, recruitment, or leading a team, grab a cuppa and join me for a conversation on how tech can transform hiring into something we all feel good about. #hiringAI #recruitmentAI

My heart broke listening to BBC Radio 4 this week. An ex-city worker called Jonathan spoke to?BBC Today Programme about how he was sacked from his job four years ago, at 57. Since then, Jonathan has applied for hundreds of jobs. Despite decades of experience, he’s been unable to land a new role. He suspects ageism is to blame - and so do I. Jonathan’s experience is familiar. Thousands of talented older workers are being barred from re-entering the workforce due to age bias. Yet, the government and employers have the audacity to complain about skills shortages…? The solution is clear. Fix broken hiring processes. ?? When we use anonymous applications and skills tests to assess candidates solely on their skills, we minimise opportunities for age bias. More fool the companies who continue to miss out on the experience, skills and perspectives older workers bring to organisations. ? #agebias #bbcradio4 #interviews #hiring #hiringbias #olderworkers?

Nearly 1 in 2 Britons (47%) think gender equality has gone far enough... (IPSOS) We call bullsh*t. And here's vital stats to prove it: Women in the UK earn 14.3% less than men on average. This translates to 86 pence on the pound. (ONS) This pay gap means that working women must wait 52 days – nearly two months – before they stop working for free compared to men. (TUC) Mothers in the UK experience a 4% wage penalty per child. While fathers see no such effect. (PNAS) And 75% of the gender pay gap is attributed to the motherhood penalty. (FTSE Women Leaders) Studies estimate global economic gains of $5-6 trillion if women started and scaled new businesses at the same rate as men do... (Worldbank) But female founders receive only?2.3%?of venture capital funding - Despite starting businesses at similar rates to men. (Crunchbase) And 40% of people worldwide believe men make better business executives than women. (GSNI) Around 2 in 5 people globally (43%) have witnessed at least one experience of gender discrimination in the past year. (KCL) Currently, it will take 286 years for the world to achieve gender equality. (UN Women) And another 132 years to close the global gender gap. (WE Forum) So we want to ask again - has gender equality gone far enough? --- Head to the comments for 5 actionable changes to start making now... #InternationalWomensDay2023 #IWD2023 #GenderParity #GenderEquality #GPG

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait until 2070 to see women represented in science and tech. ?? Yet at our current trajectory, it’s going to take at least 50 years for us to achieve gender equality in STEM. Women account for just 26% of the STEM workforce. This is partly because women don’t fit preconceived notions of what talented STEM workers look like, and this bias impacts hiring decisions. This harms EVERYONE: women, men, companies, the economy, healthcare systems, institutions, young girls who lack role models, the list goes on. It's International Women's Day today. So what better time to start advocating for women in STEM? ?? According to our research at Applied, skills-based hiring can boost the number of women hired into STEM roles by ? 70% ? So changing how we hire is something every company can do immediately to start moving the dial. #internationalwomensday #womeninSTEM #womenintech #womeninai #ethicalhiring

Here to write. If it goes viral, it's not because of me. It's because it's true.

To achieve great things, stop thinking in days or weeks and start thinking in years and decades. Work hard, stay consistent, and above all, remain patient. Results happen over time, not overnight.

I’m really struggling with something ahead of International Women’s Day on Friday. ? This year I just feel a bit… meh about the whole thing. ? Cross. Frustrated. Fed up. Uninspired. Tired. ? ? The gender pay gap, not due to be eliminated in my lifetime. ? ? The motherhood penalty, showing women’s income and earning potential nose-dives as soon as we get pregnant. ? ? The knock-on impact to women’s pension pots – less paid in so less to drawn down at retirement. ? ? The knock-on impact to women's student loans - gaps in repayments for maternity leave while the interest (currently 7.6%) racks up, then less repaid as earnings are lower, meaning typically women pay more, for longer than their male counterparts. ? ? The extortionate cost of childcare. ? ? Presentation bias, whereby women continue to be judged on what they wear and how they appear whilst men escape the same scrutiny. ? ? Underemployment, whereby (typically) women end up taking roles they are overqualified for or don’t pay what they deserve because it's typically more junior roles that offer the flexibility needed alongside raising the next generation. ? ? A seemingly never-ending debate on flexible and hybrid working, something that clearly enables more women to continue working which benefits themselves, their families, and the economy at large. ? I have a lot of privilege in my life that means I don’t feel the impact of this as much as a lot of others. I am white, cis-gendered, employed in a role that reflects my skills and abilities with a grown-up approach to flexible working and paid a fair salary. Despite costing an arm and a leg I have access to childcare (which we love) and it is the right decision for me and my family to continue working. ? The same can’t be said for a lot of other women. And we can't do anything about this by ourselves. ? If you and your organisation are serious about International Women’s Day and supporting women in the workplace: ? ? Make sure you have an approach to flexible working that works – women AND men need flexibility to make life work ? ? Review your parental leave policies and ensure you are supporting men to take time off too ? ? Think about whether you have a menopause policy to help your female employees feel supported and able to stay in the workforce for longer ? ? Offer your employees a financial health check ? ? Challenge yourself to consider whether more senior roles can be done on a part time / job share / flexible / hybrid basis ? ?? And if you have a different perspective on #iwd24 I would love to hear what you are reading and following outside of my own LinkedIn echo chamber. #InternationalWomensDay #FlexibleWorking #MotherhoodPenalty #GenderPayGap #IWD2024
