For the rest of us - DO read the whole article if you're curious about ways that AI can help revolutionize hiring for people with disabilities. 关于我们
Since our beginnings in 1952, Beacon Group has been committed to providing employment related opportunities to people with disabilities. We provide training, development and access to real work for a segment of our community that traditionally bears a 70% unemployment rate. We help people go from tax-supported to tax-payers. In 2003, Beacon Foundation and Tetra Corporation merged to become Beacon Group, and we now serve over 2,200 people with disabilities each year. We provide a variety of employment related programs, as well as the education and socialization necessary for our members to lead meaningful, productive lives. Our business operations offer manufacturing, filling, kitting, packaging, document shredding services, and electrical assembly. We also employ offsite work crews that perform groundskeeping, clerical, assembly, automobile detailing, food service, and custodial maintenance.

The Beacon crew at Southwest Gas Corporation understands what it means to "Be Safe." It's not just a hope or wish for someone to not get injured on the job, it's taking purposeful actions to enhance each person's safety. The close-knit crew takes this seriously - they handwrote their safety rules and each day they make sure to double check that every member of the team is following those rules. Understanding and following safety procedures is an important employment skill and we're happy to say this crew excels at it!

These are some insightful tips on how to be a better ally to wheelchair users. The more we NOTICE accessibility, EDUCATE ourselves and ENGAGE in conversations about disability, the better we are making society for everyone. P.S. if you want to get started on your education, this website outlines some of the barriers to accessibility that Jennie Berry mentions in her post. Were you aware of all these? https://lnkd.in/gNrQS_KT

How Non-Disabled People Can Help Me as a Manual Wheelchair User ???? Being a wheelchair user comes with its own set of challenges, but so many of these aren’t because of my disability - they’re because of the barriers society puts in my way. From inaccessible buildings to awkward interactions, a lot of the difficulties I face could be reduced if more people understood how to be better allies to wheelchair users like me. And the good news? It’s easier than you think! So, if you’re wondering how you can help - whether as a friend, colleague, business owner, or just someone who cares - here are a few things that make a real difference: ? Start Noticing Accessibility - Next time you’re in a café, shop, or public space, look around: Is there a step at the entrance? Are the tables too close together? Is the bathroom actually wheelchair accessible? Small details like these determine whether I can comfortably exist in a space. ? Educate Yourself & Others - Learn about common accessibility barriers and speak up when you see them. It’s not just about ramps and lifts - it’s about attitudes, assumptions, and making spaces truly inclusive. If you hear someone say, “We don’t really get wheelchair users here,” challenge it. We exist, and we go places. ? Ask Before You Help - Grabbing my wheelchair without asking or assuming I need assistance can be frustrating (and even dangerous). If you’re not sure, a simple “Would you like any help?” goes a long way. And if I say no, trust that I’ve got it! ? Engage in the Conversation - Share posts like this, ask thoughtful questions, and listen to disabled voices. Allyship isn’t about having all the answers - it’s about being open to learning and using your privilege to make change happen. ?? Your Turn: Have you ever noticed an accessibility issue and spoken up about it? Or is there something you’ve always wanted to ask but didn’t know how? Let’s chat in the comments! #AccessibilityMatters #WheelchairLife #DisabilityAwareness #Inclusion #Allyship

Today we welcomed Autumn Rentmeester with Ben's Bells to Beacon Group headquarters for a wonderful presentation to our WOLVES program participants on how to hone kindness skills and put them to good use in the workplace and in everyday life. Beacon Group focuses on building soft and hard employment skills for our members, but sometimes we may all forget that KINDNESS can actually require skill too, and we can all use a little brushing up on that now and again. Autumn's presentation drilled into that mindset and also how kindness in the workplace (and the community) can create a happier, less stressed, more productive team! Ben's Bells has many of resources for developing a kind workplace, including this one: https://lnkd.in/gbzbU9Nu Thank you again, Ben's Bells, for your visit and we're looking forward to our continued partnership!
