?????? December and the holidays are a special time for Belgian chocolatiers, when their craft takes center stage. We had the pleasure of speaking with Benoit and Sylvie, whose passion for chocolate has brought a taste of Belgium to Connecticut. ?? BE Chocolat LLC is a premium Belgian chocolate brand co-founded by Benoit Racquet, ???? Master chocolatier, and his wife Sylvie Fortin, who manages operations and marketing. Benoit trained at the CERIA Emile Gryzon Institute in Brussels, renowned for producing exceptional chocolatiers. His journey started with a chocolate business in Belgium, where he specialized in branded chocolates, including printed designs for corporate clients. The brand soared when Beno?t was selected to represent Belgian #chocolatiers at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. ?? It all started in the basement In 2014, after relocating to Connecticut due to Benoit’s corporate job, the couple revived their chocolate-making passion. Starting from a home-based “Chocolate Factory in a Box” kit from Chocolate World in Belgium, the activity began as a #cottagebusiness, leveraging unique #Connecticut laws that allow small-scale food production at home. Sylvie spearheaded online sales and social media, while Benoit crafted his first chocolates. ?? Only quality ingredients, but still affordable prices BE Chocolat focuses on artisanal quality, using Barry Callebaut Group couverture chocolate imported from Belgium. Benoit's dedication to flavor authenticity is evident in a three-year-long development process for creating original and less sugary recipes. The team holds rigorous taste tests, with panels of chefs, food critics, designers, and their most loyal customers. While honoring Belgian classics, BE Chocolat embraces American tastes with original flavors such as turtle or s’mores-inspired pralines. Seasonal creations, like artistic Easter eggs and the traditional #chocolate bars, hot chocolate, Liège waffles and ????-inspired ice cream complete their product range. ?? Covid became a springboard to growth The brand's growth trajectory is impressive, expanding from a home-based setup to opening Atelier BE Chocolat and employing over 20 staff members. Online chocolates sales spiked during the pandemic. BE Chocolat now has a solid regional presence with two physical stores in Fairfield & Greenwich, CT, that immerse visitors in a ????-inspired experience. Their chocolates are also distributed in displays in coffee and gift shops. The brand’s reputation now attracts partnerships with names like Tiffany & Co. and exclusive restaurants. BE Chocolat has become synonymous with creativity, high-quality & fresh products. ??
