If you’re on or near the UC Berkeley campus this Friday and Saturday stop by this fascinating conference! Free and open to the public and ADA accessible! This week, Nov 1 and 2, UC Berkeley Department of Anthropology will host Psychedelic Reckonings, a conference at that will investigate the increasing salience of multiple figures of ancestry, inheritance and transmission – across bodies, generations, humans and more-than-human-others, the living and the dead – to psychedelic and plant medicine culture in the contemporary United States and beyond. The event will feature activists, artists, educators, healing practitioners, scholars and writers whose lives and work explore these themes. Speakers’ topics will include encounters with ancestral presences and the dead; the use of plant medicines by Indigenous, Black, and Asian communities in the U.S. to heal intergenerational trauma; Bay Area psychedelic counterculture and its legacies; ancestral lineage repair work across traditions; and addressing the problem of cultural appropriation within White psychedelic culture. The event is sponsored by Flourish Trust and is part of the Psychedelics in Society and Culture?program, a collaborative initiative between UC Berkeley and Harvard to foster psychedelic research across the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Additional co-sponsors include the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics, the Department of Anthropology, the Center for Interdisciplinary Critical Inquiry, and Townsend Center for the Humanities. Applications open December 2024 for Psychedelics in Society and Culture program for UC Berkeley affiliated applicants. Keep an eye out on our website for more application updates! The Silver Lab, part of the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute and the UCB School of Optometry, is recruiting for a pre-screening study that will select participants for a clinical trial involving psilocybin (see clinical trials study page for more information: https://lnkd.in/gWNsSHtD). This pre-screening study is intended to collect additional data for participants who go on to participate in the psilocybin clinical trial study. What we are looking for: * Healthy volunteers ≥ 21 years of age with normal or corrected-to-normal vision * The study consists of a health screen, one behavioral task session, and MRI headcase creation and comfort testing (up to 4 hours total, 2 in-person visits) * Experiment tasks include watching visual stimuli and making judgments about your visual experience * Compensation is $15 per hour Preferred:? Experience being scanned in an MRI scanner? Experience participating in MRI research We are specifically looking for individuals who are motivated to participate in the psilocybin clinical trial experiment, which will involve an additional 30-35 hours over 11 visits: 4 in-person and 7 remote. It will involve 6 hours of MRI scanning. If you are not interested in participating in the psilocybin clinical trial, you should not participate in this pre-screening study. Note that the clinical trial experiment is a separate study, and involves separate consent, screening, and compensation. If you are interested, please contact the lead researcher Jen Holmberg at [email protected].

"The study found that only one psychedelic research center (0.02%) had top leadership that was Native/Indigenous while 20% to 25% of centers or public health programs/schools referenced indigeneity in their psychedelic pursuits, such as a land acknowledgment, scholarship, or research."
