BCSI is driven by the conviction that by equipping individuals with the necessary skills and certifications, they can contribute to the equitable hiring (skills-based hiring!) of a more skilled, knowledgeable, and competitive bioscience workforce. How we do it: Assessment: BCSI conducts thorough assessments to evaluate candidates' proficiency in essential lab skills. These assessments are designed to accurately measure candidates' abilities and readiness for entry-level positions in the bioscience industry. Microcredentialing: Upon successful completion of the assessment process, candidates receive BCSI microcredentials, indicating their competency in specific bioscience lab skills. This certification serves as a trusted signal for employers, signaling candidates' readiness for the demands of the bioscience workplace. Training Certified Evaluators: BCSI provides training opportunities for individuals interested in becoming Certified Evaluators. These evaluators play a critical role in administering assessments and tests to candidates seeking microcredentials. Training options include both virtual sessions and live training experiences, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for participants. Industry Recognition: BCSI works to establish its microcredentials as nationally recognized standards for bioscience education and workforce development. By partnering with industry stakeholders and promoting the value of its certifications, BCSI aims to enhance the credibility and adoption of its programs within the bioscience community.

The campus now ranks as one of my all-time favorites—the science building boasts visual showcases reflecting decades of achievements in the physical and biological sciences. It was inspiring to witness the strong collegial spirit among the faculty, including those from Kansas State University and BioNexus KC who made the trip and joined us on a weekend!
