BCSE was thrilled to bring private sector, federal government, and subnational leaders together at the #COP29 America Is All In Action Center! Watch the recording of our discussion on rethinking decision-making in sustainable #energy investments: https://lnkd.in/gwy6TYa2
“Our organizations support local leaders, governors, tribes, and the private sector in implementing meaningful climate action. And with the investments already in place, with the Inflation Reduction Act, we are poised to take off and accelerate this momentum that we already have, because America is ‘all in.’” – Liz Beardsley, Senior Policy Counsel, U.S. Green Building Council This past week, our coalition joined climate champions from around the world at #COP29. At the #AmericaIsAllIn Action Center, we hosted 19 events over the course of three days featuring esteemed speakers and panelists from all sectors of society, including cities, businesses, schools, cultural institutions, and many more.?? A tremendous thank you to our event co-hosts Center for Global Sustainability, U.S. Climate Alliance, FEMA, The American Institute of Architects (AIA), Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), The Climate Registry, International Code Council, U.S. Green Building Council, Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE), Emerson, Aspen Technology, Microsoft, Google, World Wildlife Fund, Second Nature, and Alliances for Climate Action for helping us bring together climate leaders in support of building a safer, healthier, and more resilient future for many generations to come. Whether you joined us in person or virtually, we also wanted to extend our appreciation to our attendees, partners, and members for participating in our Action Center and underscoring the importance of subnational #ClimateAction. "Whatever is negotiated between governments, whether at #COP29 or in subsequent international summits on trade and security, it will ultimately be businesses that will mobilise and allocate resources to deliver on #cleanenergy goals and design out greenhouse gas emissions." As #COP29 wraps up in Baku, BCSE is proud to have brought a delegation of 30 US businesses and trade associations to provide insight from the real economy on what policies work to catalyze investment and deployment. These businesses are deploying the #energyefficiency and clean energy solutions needed to reduce #energy demand, accelerate the energy transition, and keep global temperature rise below 1.5°C. Since our founding in 1992, BCSE has been an accredited business observer organization to the United Nations – and now more than ever, international and federal policies are needed to ensure market certainty in the energy transition. This certainty can be driven by continued momentum on high ambition #NDCs that include all greenhouse gases and are 1.5°C-aligned. As Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)'s Lindsay Hooper writes in Reuters, governments must "chart a bold path that deals honestly with citizens on the tough choices ahead, addresses the consumption challenge and unleashes the power of markets – spurring a transformation that strengthens economies and provides businesses with the confidence to invest in a sustainable future."
