James FitzGerald and I have written a white paper titled “Carbon Credits and the Environmental Future of Texas” that describes how nature-based carbon credits can be used as an important tool for environmental conservation and protection.?In this paper, the role of the carbon credit market in protecting coastal wetlands, cleaning up old oil and gas fields, protecting ecological resources in fast growing areas of Texas, protecting endangered species, protecting springs, and including small African American landowners in the carbon market is described. From a statewide standpoint, carbon credits can help protect the unique environmental features of Texas while becoming a part of the economy of the future that is being created through our transition to a circular economy of the future.?In short, this paper describes one of the largest potential win/wins of the energy future as we strive to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reach net zero by 2050 if not sooner.??

The results of these measurements will help us better understand the important role of our Coastal Prairie systems in carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation. BCarbon staff have been on the road talking about all things carbon credits! Melanie Leigh Martin attended the AAPG Orphan, Abandoned, Idle, and Marginal Wells Conference in Cranberry, PA to discuss the opportunity for well plugging carbon credits in the voluntary carbon market. Sarah Swackhamer gave a "carbon credits 101" presentation at Prairie View A&M's second annual Women in Ag Day, and shared information about our East Texas-focused small landowner collaboration with PVAMU and US BCSD. Sarah also had the opportunity to be on a panel at CBASS's recent meet & greet in Rockport, TX to share information about how living shorelines and other carbon credit-earning projects can leverage private finance to implement and sustain green infrastructure.
