In celebration of #InternationalDayoftheGirl, we are proud to announce the second cohort of our #GameChangers initiative! This powerful collective of women leaders across sports, entertainment, and business, and more, embody the shared belief that "if you can see it, you can be it". According to recent CDC data, 3 in 5 teen girls in the U.S. are facing mental health challenges, which can have lasting implications for their career readiness and overall social and academic success. Research shows that positive mentoring relationships can significantly enhance self-esteem and confidence among girls, as they navigate the pressures of adolescence and beyond. Together, in collaboration with this dynamic coalition of women Game Changers, we will amplify the power of positive mentorship across industries and communities, to create access and opportunities for young women who need it the most. When Little Alexus was 9, she was placed in her grandmother's care after her mother's incarceration. Through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, she met her Big, Megan. Their bond grew through shared experiences - from costume contests to job shadowing. Big Megan supported Little Alexus through key milestones like learning to drive and preparing for school dances. A highlight was their senior year shopping trip, which Alexus called "the best day of my life." The Senate has unanimously passed, and the House has introduced, the Big Brothers Big Sisters 120th Anniversary Resolution, thanks to Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Todd Young (R-IN), and Representatives Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA) and Mark Amodei (R-NV). This bipartisan resolution recognizes BBBS's 120 years of mentoring impact, highlights mentorship's transformative power, and supports our program expansion.
