The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Baylor University offers a unique combination of individual attention and advanced resources. Our department is of medium size with 24 research professors, 5 adjunct or affiliate research professors, 1 tenured teaching professors, 15 lecturers, 3 laboratory coordinators, 29 research staff, 4 administrative staff and over 135 graduate students, which makes for a close-knit and friendly atmosphere. We have research programs in the core areas of chemistry (analytical, inorganic, physical, organic, materials, and biochemistry) along with more interdisciplinary programs in chemical biology and biomedical research, yet our favorable student-to-faculty ratio makes interaction on a daily basis common. We have many young, active faculty and an expanding graduate program.

Batteries are engineered with carefully designed bulk materials, even down to the microscale, yet key performance limitations often arise from hidden interfacial processes at the nanoscale. That is why Prof. Jonathan Larson from Baylor University will introduce advanced spectroscopic techniques that unveil elusive dynamics, providing unprecedented chemical and structural insights to help drive future breakthroughs in energy storage. Register today for his #BatteryForum session at the ?? in the comments.
Colloquium with Erin Pelkey, Ph.D., Hobart and William Smith Colleges, next Wednesday, 19 March. Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Heterocyclic Analogs of the Antitubulin Natural Product Combretastatin A4 Hosts: Daniel Romo and Aaron Wright

Dearomative C2–Borylation of Indoles Ayesha Begum, Manjur Oyasim Akram, and Caleb Martin Dalton Transactions, 12 Mar 2025 The dearomative borylation of indoles is challenging and typically requires transition metal catalysts, strong bases, or harsh conditions. We report the metal- and base-free C2-borylation of indoles using bis(1-methyl-ortho-carboranyl)borane as an electrophilic borylating reagent to generate borylated indolenium under mild conditions.
