When Barack Obama signed the Hitech Act into law to boost the use of electronic health records, Saria spent the next year using digitized healthcare data to develop an algorithm meant to better identify premature infants at high risk of developing deadly complications. Then Saria lost her nephew to sepsis. Spurred into action, she decided to spin her research out of academia and bring the tech to hospitals with Bayesian Health. Wow - twice on TIME! Our work in sepsis was on TIME’s Best Invention last year. This year our work in pressure ulcer got a special mention!! ?????? There is a myth that clinical AI is hard and risky. Well, it’s definitely hard - it’s taken us over a decade, no kidding! But, the rubric for regulatory oversight is furthest along in clinical compared to any other area thanks to work done by orgs like the FDA over the last several decades. And the opportunity for benefit is what excites me most. Each one of our solutions on the platform utilize state of the art AI coupled with best in class oversight/governance to: 1) significantly improve outcomes for patients, 2) unburden frontline care teams by making dramatically faster/smarter workflows, and 3) create financial value for health systems.
