  • ?? It takes a village to raise a child…. ….and an ecosystem to transform how we grow our food ?? Last week we had the pleasure of RootCamp-ing in #LifeHubMonheim at Bayer Crop Science HQ. It was great to host the latest batch of breakthrough start-ups from RootCamp - A SpinLab Company and companies from their partner Smarterra powered by SMAFINE Bringing together entrepreneurs, industry experts, investors and key players from the innovation ecosystem, we heard great pitches from transformative companies before a networking session that started out so intensely, we almost forgot there was food. Take the time to check out these great companies: Nium - 72% reduction in energy consumption for ammonia production Plantilizer - Precision solutions: BioChar & biologics combinations B2B Open Climate Solutions - Next generation biostimulants from macroalgae VCG.AI - Value Chain generator - circular and biobased business models Verdancy - microgel formulation technologies for crop protection Anostra - low cost autonomous navigation of farm equipment Symbiagro - microbial biostimulants in cereals and beyond ?? And why are events like this so important? ?? Innovation in agriculture is critical to ensuring global food security for an exponentially growing population in the face of climate change, and offers opportunities to restore our environment, yet: ?? VC funding is a fraction of other industries ?? The policy and regulatory environment is complex and difficult for innovators to navigate ?? The market opportunities (what farmer’s really need) is often not clear Only by bringing together the ecosystem are we able to address these challenges (and so many more) and enable the transformation of agriculture. A big thanks to all our friends, partners and colleagues for joining us, and to the team at Root Camp for making this happen Annkathrin Wahbi Gaia Amatteis Gereon von Ilten Let us know if you would like to join us and our friends next time.? ?? ??

  • ?????? ?????????????????????? ?????????????????? ?????? ?????????????? ???? ?????? ????????:?Is #soilmicrobiome the key to enabling regenerative practices without compromising productivity? We believe it can play a major role and are delighted to be working with breakthrough innovators at Elaniti to explore how understanding the #soilmicrobiome can help #farmers. Our journey began when we first met Elaniti at the EIT Food Accelerator Network, and we were excited to then invite them to our site as part of our ongoing collaboration with EIT Food. Their impressive insights left a lasting impact, leading the Bayer team to work closely with Scott Jarrett to transform our initial connection into an important partnership. Big thanks to the Bayer Team Verena Herrmann A. Michael Klueken Karl D Collins and all the team at EIT Food and partners that helped bring this to fruition Samantha Gadenne Nikola Baumschlager Rita Laukemper Marie Brueser. Together Bayer | Crop Science and Elaniti will explore: ?? The intricate role of the soil microbiome in early crop establishment. ?? How machine learning can help in determining how a healthy microbial community can enhance plant growth and resilience ?? The optimal combination of input factors for farmers when soil microbiome conditions are less than ideal. Why is this research important? It has the potential to significantly reduce the risk of early crop failure and enable farmers to balance economic and environmental considerations more effectively. As A. Michael Klueken Bayer Science Fellow and Expert in Product Biology states: "Leveraging microbial insights can help us enhance nutrient use efficiency,?optimize disease management, and support the adoption of regenerative practices without compromising productivity. This will be crucial in facilitating an agricultural system that both produces more and restores more.” Curious to learn more? Check out the story on the EIT Food website - link in the comments ?? - and let us know your thoughts on how important you think the #soilmicrobiome for the future of ag ???

  • Transforming Agriculture Together through Innovation ?? Last week, together with Naked Innovation we hosted a great Ecosystem Partner-Startup Session. The event was part of our Golden Ticket II: #RegenerativeAgriculture program at #LifeHubMonheim that offers start-ups the chance to co-locate at our headquarters and undertake collaborative proof of concept projects. With 7 brilliant ecosystem partners and 35 #agritech startups we had a great exchange on challenges, ideas, opportunities, and collaboration. A couple of very interesting points from the session: ?? The holistic impact of agricultural innovation on food security and climate change needs to be clearer to drive impact investment. It is so much more than “carbon”! ?? Investing will increasingly focus on transforming systems, and regenerative agriculture is a great example. A big increase in impact investing in the next 3 years in the space is expected. And some great questions raised: ? Are there government-supported land access programs for startups practicing regenerative agriculture? Any thoughts Enno Ommen & Florian Jenner ? What impact metrics (e.g., carbon sequestration, biodiversity improvement, water conservation) do you prioritize when evaluating regenerative projects? One for you Daniel Glas ? How do you assess the risk in businesses with environmental outcomes that may take years to realize? Dr. Rolf Christian Becker B?rbel Hundt any thoughts? Please share your expertise in the comments - it will support entrepreneurs in making sure there technologies meet the needs of farmer's today and in the future. • Empowering Farmers through Digital Transformation Bayer LifeHub Bangalore recently hosted an insightful discussion on the Unified Krishi Interface (UKI). The event featured a presentation by Mr. Venky Ramachandran, Project Director at UKI, who shared valuable insights into this innovative initiative aimed at revolutionizing how farmers access agricultural services. The Unified Krishi Interface is a project designed to create an open, interoperable network that places farmers at the center of the agricultural ecosystem. By connecting with local and international agricultural networks, UKI aims to transform the agricultural landscape through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and AI-powered solutions. This discussion aligns with our commitment to empowering smallholder farmers in India by facilitating access to digital and sustainable agricultural solutions. By fostering external partnerships and promoting initiatives like UAI, we aim to enhance transparency and innovation that meets the needs of the agricultural community. Thanks Venky Ramachandran for this engaging session! #LifeHubBangalore #DigitalTransformation #UnifiedKrishiInterface #InnovationsinAgriculture Venky Ramachandran Shahin Basheer Nagabhushana Ithal Sushmitha Chengappa A Anik Luke Dhanaraj

  • ???????????????? ??????????????: ?????????????? ?????????????? ???? ???????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ??????! We were delighted to be invited to join our colleagues in the Netherlands and represent Bayer at the Wageningen University Career Day. This event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with talented university students who represent the future scientific leaders in agriculture, and we had a great time. Not only did we get to connect with the students, but we also continued our work facilitating the growth and impact of the European innovation ecosystem for agriculture. In this case, we explored opportunities to strengthen the connectivity between the German and Dutch innovation ecosystems for agriculture. ?????? ?????? ??????????????????: ?? While the next generation of scientific leaders in agriculture is aware of the magnitude of the challenges they face, they are optimistic that they can create a brighter future. Our obligation is to empower and enable them, rather than direct them. ?? Strengthening connectivity across the EU innovation ecosystem for agriculture is more critical than ever. Money is more expensive, investments are down, and the complexity of innovation is increasing (i.e., it is harder and more costly). Unity is more important than ever if we are to shift the needle and successfully scale European innovation to impactful levels. A big thank you to Bastiaan Meerburg for fostering the connectivity between our innovation, biological crop protection, and vegetable seeds teams as we support the next generation of talent in our industry. What qualities do you think are essential for the next generation of leaders in our field? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! #sustainableagriculture #wageningencareerday #futuretalent Bastiaan Meerburg Vivian van Oosten #KeesvanLenning Na Wang Klazien Flapper Christy van Beek #FlorianJupe Jan Cees Bron Mirella K.
