Did you know that until 1974, banks could refuse loans to unmarried women or require a male co-signer? Despite these challenges, women have pushed through barriers to achieve independence and homeownership, and we’re so proud of the many resilient women who have completed our homeownership program and now own their homes. ?? On Crystal's birthday, she and Rocio worked side by side to build Crystal's future home alongside the incredible women of NAWIC Houston Chapter#3! ???? What better way to celebrate than by building with another soon-to-be homeowner and a team of strong women who are shaping history and strengthening our community? ? Happy #AmeriCorpsWeek! ?? This AmeriCorps Week, we’re so proud to celebrate our incredible AmeriCorps member, Eli! If you've volunteered with us recently, you’ve likely met Eli and know he is hardworking, compassionate, and always a friendly face on the job site. He’s been a fantastic addition to our small but mighty team, and we’re so lucky to have him helping us build homes and hope alongside our Habitat families! ?? On February 26, over 100 volunteers built more than a home at the Texas Capitol, they built momentum for Senate Bill 208 (SB 208). This bipartisan bill would create a $50 million fund to help working families afford housing, but it’s stuck in the legislature. Even the Texas Comptroller spoke at the event about the urgent need for affordable housing. Your voice can help! Call your state representative and urge them to support SB 208.
