Bay West's Susan Roberts and Emily Widstrand, P.E. are attending the A&WMA’s Science of PFAS in Raleigh, NC. This premier event brings together researchers, regulators, and industry leaders to discuss the latest science, regulatory developments, and treatment technologies for PFAS contamination. At Bay West, we’re actively involved in PFAS investigation, management, and destruction technologies. Our team is leading applied research in supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) for PFAS destruction. We are working with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) and General Atomics to optimize SCWO solutions. Let’s connect and discuss how we can advance PFAS solutions together! #PFAS #EnvironmentalRemediation #BayWest #AWMA #PFASConference

Not all cleanup methods can handle complex contamination, but bioremediation—when done right—can achieve remarkable results. In our latest Bioremediation Brief, we highlight a real-world success: a project in Joplin, MO, where targeted bioremediation led to a 99% reduction in contaminants within just 24 months. Check out the slides to see how we tackled this challenging site, and let us know your thoughts in the comments! Have a contamination challenge of your own? Beneath the surface of metal plating’s benefits lies a long history of environmental challenges. But improper waste disposal over the decades has left behind significant contamination challenges—particularly from heavy metals and hazardous chemicals. Addressing these impacts requires expert remediation to protect human health and the environment. At Bay West, we’ve spent decades tackling the complex environmental challenges left behind by historical plating operations. In our latest Insights Post, we take a dive into the history of metal plating, its environmental consequences, and how modern remediation techniques are making a difference. ?? Bad night for 2,500 gallons of PFAS barreling toward a major waterway. Good night for having Bay West on the scene. Our emergency response team and vacuum truck were on it—containing, recovering, and preventing a much bigger problem. PFAS spills don’t wait, and neither do we. #EnvironmentalResponse #PFAS #EmergencySpillResponse

Bioremediation is one of the most effective ways to clean up contamination, but not all bioremediation strategies are created equal. The key to success? Biofilms—microbial communities that work together to break down pollutants efficiently and sustain long-term remediation. In this edition of the Bioremediation Brief, we’re taking a closer look at how biofilms form, why they’re so effective, and how they give bioremediation the edge over traditional cleanup methods. Bioremediation is one of the most sustainable and cost-effective remediation methods available—but only when it’s done right. Too often, projects fail because of avoidable mistakes. In this edition of the Bioremediation Brief, we’re breaking down the common pitfalls that can derail a project and what it takes to ensure success. ? Our very own Paul Raymaker PG presented the work we're doing to support the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in documenting post-remedy baseline conditions in the St. Louis River Area of Concern. This data is critical to understanding the health of the estuary and removing the remaining sediment-related beneficial use impairments, paving the way for long-term protection and recovery.
Had a great time at the Battelle Sediment conference catching up with old friends, meeting lots of new people and seeing all the great work being done in the world of sediment!

Our annual Training Day brought the whole Bay West team together for a day of learning, connection, and celebration. It’s not every day we get to see faces from across the country in one place, and we made the most of it with insightful presentations, great conversations, and plenty of laughter. The day wouldn’t be complete without our annual company party—a well-earned chance to unwind and celebrate everything we’ve accomplished in 2024. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up, shared their expertise, and made the day one to remember!
