I am excited to share with everyone the successful completion of BookWorm, my most recent web development project! This was my first solo full-stack software project. The frontend portion of the application was built in TypeScript with React.js and Bootstrap, while the backend portion was developed in JavaScript with Node.js, Express.js, and MySQL for database management. BookWorm is a book reading application that lets users browse Google Book's database of book records and choose the text they want to read in-app. It incorporates various CRUD operation features and high level of security by means of password hashing, JWT tokens, and more. One year ago, I took on my role at the YMCA of San Joaquin County and was given just two and a half weeks to pull off our annual Trunk or Treat. I’d never coordinated an event before, but with determination and a lot of hope, we brought in nearly 1,300 people—the largest crowd our YMCA had seen! Yet, despite the turnout, the event ran in the negative, and I knew we could do better. This year? We had over 2,000 attendees, 48 incredible vendors (87% them nonprofits), and every bit of candy was donated by our generous community. The only expense? A $50 ad run the day before. I’m beyond grateful to everyone who made this possible and supported our vision. This journey has shown me not only the power of community but also the impact of trusting myself and others. Every challenge has pushed me to learn, adapt, and grow in ways I hadn’t expected. I’m grateful for the chance to keep expanding my skills and for the incredible support around me.
