Expanding Career Pathways: Lockheed Martin’s Apprenticeship Program Comes to the Bay Area! At the Bay Area K-16 Collaborative, our mission is to create seamless education-to-career pathways that prepare students for high-growth, high-wage industries. That’s why we’re excited to share this apprenticeship opportunity with Lockheed Martin, a national leader in aerospace and advanced manufacturing. The Sunnyvale Apprenticeship Program (SAP) is a paid, earn-while-you-learn opportunity designed to equip students with hands-on training in electronics assembly—no prior experience or degree required. This program directly aligns with K-16’s goal of expanding access to STEM careers and removing barriers to high-quality workforce opportunities. ?? The 2025 Spring Policy Action Network (SPAN) of the California Council on Teacher Education provided a vital space for policy updates, insightful breakout sessions, and engaging panel discussions—all in preparation for virtual legislative visits with California elected officials and staffers. The Bay Area K-16 Collaborative was honored to contribute to this important dialogue. Executive Director Agustin Cervantes, Ed.D. presented as part of a research roundtable, sharing our ongoing efforts to strengthen equitable education-to-career pathways. These conversations are crucial in shaping policies that support teacher preparation, workforce development, and student success. A heartfelt thank you to the CCTE Policy Committee Co-Chairs—Cynthia Grutzik, Pia Wong, Eduardo Mu?oz-Mu?oz, Ph.D., and Allison Smith—for your leadership in organizing and hosting such an impactful convening. We look forward to continued collaboration and advocacy for educator preparation and student equity across the state!

Dual enrollment in California is free or low-cost, allowing students to earn college credit without the burden of tuition, fees, and textbooks. This is especially significant for low-income students who might otherwise see college as unaffordable. And CCAP dual enrollment is closing equity gaps. From the 2023 Policy Brief: Improving College Access and Success through Dual Enrollment from Public Policy Institute of California, "College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP), has become the fastest growing dual enrollment option in California, jumping fivefold from just under 4,500 students in 2016 to nearly 25,000 in 2020. The jump in participation has also resulted in greater equity for students who have been underrepresented in California colleges, as the share of CCAP students is similar to the makeup of California’s K–12 student population ..." https://lnkd.in/g_H-5B6U #DualEnrollmentWeek #DualEnrollment #EdEquity

This looks like an engaging webinar- we'll be on! Community College Research Center and Education and Employment Research Center, Rutgers University are such leaders in moving the field from random acts of dual enrollment to dual enrollment pathways as a true #equity strategy. The Bay Area K-16 Collaborative is focused on supporting our partners to embed Dual Enrollment Equity Pathways (DEEP) within our institutions. We look forward to learning more about how Middlesex College is making it happen!

Amazing event! #Counselors play a pivotal role in making pathways actionable and accessible to students. Today, counselors from California State University - East Bay and K-12 school districts and community colleges across the East Bay convened to strengthen collaboration, communication and partnership.

What an incredible experience at the 2025 CA Dual Enrollment Equity Conference in Sacramento! ?? A huge thank you to the California Alliance of Dual Enrollment Partnerships, Career Ladders Project, and EdTrust-West for creating such a valuable learning and development space for all attendees. The Bay Area K-16 Collaborative was honored to lead and facilitate two breakout sessions, highlighting our collective efforts in building equity-driven occupational pathways and expanding dual enrollment opportunities. Agustin Cervantes, Ed.D. and Marcella Cardoza McCollum presented "Advancing Occupational Pathways in the Bay Area: Dual Enrollment Through Intersegmental Collaboration." Janene Perez, Karisa Scott, and Sandy Ho shared "Dual Enrollment in Occupational Pathway Design: San Jose K-16 Collaborative’s Education Pathway." We were also proud to co-sponsor a post-conference workshop on Dual Enrollment Excellence at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), led by Dr. Gina Ann Garcia.

Last Friday, students from schools across the Bay Area attended HP’s Black Students Day in Palo Alto. HP has been hosting this event for over 40 years to celebrate Black History Month. The Bay Area K-16 Collaborative recruited students from our partner institutions to attend the enriching experience. We are so appreciative of our employer partners!
