关于我们
The Bay Area Global Health Alliance is a membership organization and central network hub, bringing together diverse sectors to advance global health innovation and equity. Our 85+ member organizations are world-class academic institutions, innovative technology and private sector companies, start-ups, foundations, public sector institutions, and experienced nonprofits caring for the world’s most marginalized populations. With roots in the Bay Area, the Alliance has expanded to include organizations from across the United States and the world. More than a third of our members have a tech or digital health focus, 40% are based in the Bay Area, 10% are based in LMICs, and we are actively growing our LMIC partnerships. A dedication to working together for innovation and equity is what unites us and is our strength. The Alliance serves as a neutral convener, communicator, and connector, brokering multi-sector collaborations and engaging the tech sector alongside traditional global health stakeholders. By leveraging the Bay Area’s rich resources and diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem, we have helped advance global health innovation and equity by conducting virtual programming and events, building a trusted multidisciplinary network of global health leaders and experts, amplifying our members’ global health news to share global insights and promote connections between members, enabling one-on-one matchmaking and forging strategic partnerships, such as the Advancing Health Online and the WHO Tech Task Force, for which the Alliance serves as the secretariat.

??Humbled and inspired - what a fitting way to wrap up our innovation and health equity sessions for the year! Today’s international speakers included brilliant minds from across the globe who have dedicated their time and expertise to transforming newborn care through NoviGuide, a clinical decision-making support platform that has been used over 100,000 times to save lives in some of the hardest to reach communities. Dr. Joshua Bress, president of the nonprofit Global Strategies, joined us to discuss how NoviGuide was developed and to showcase how the data collected helps to improve the everyday work routine of the nurses who use the platform. Then, directly from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, we listened to the experiences of Global Strategies’ partners Dr. givano kashemwa and Dr. Margaret Nakakeeto, who highlighted the importance of building equitable partnerships with community leaders, co-designing for contextually appropriate innovation, and key lessons that have helped Noviguide to move from a pilot project to achieving scale. This session reminds us that innovation and community-centered collaboration go hand in hand and are key to achieving global health equity. Special thanks to Ivana Llobet Leca for providing French translation support for key parts of the session. Stay tuned for information about our planned sessions for?2025! Thanks to the Bay Area Global Health Alliance, Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health, and Stanford Global Health Club for joining us as partners for these events. #Innovation #HealthEquity #GlobalHealth #biodesign #GlobalStrategies

This week, November 18-24, is World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week 2024: “Educate. Advocate. Act now.” ?? AMR affects millions of people worldwide, and the number of people impacted is growing. It is caused by the overuse or inappropriate use of antibiotics and occurs when bacteria evolve to resist the effects of antibiotics that once successfully treated common infections. This issue poses a serious threat to global health, especially in LMICs that often have more limited access to healthcare and regulations for prescriptions. ???? At CGI 2024 in September, PATH, in partnership with Pfizer and the Bay Area Global Health Alliance announced a Commitment to Action: Outcomes-Based Financing as a Tool to Curb AMR in LMICs. This commitment aims to combat antimicrobial resistance and incentivize antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) through an innovative outcomes-based financing mechanism. ?? A report published in October by the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health, titled ‘Global health 2050: the path to halving premature death by mid-century,’ concludes that with focused investments in health, countries could achieve the goal of “50 by 50” — a 50% reduction in the probability of death before age 70 by the year 2050. ?? Professors affiliated with UC Berkeley School of Public Health, UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences, and Stanford University are among the co-authors who contributed to this commission report. In an article released by the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, professor of health policy and management, Alliance board member, and co-author of the report, Stefano Bertozzi shares, “I think the report makes a pretty compelling case, both about the need to spend more money on health—because health is one of the key components of socioeconomic development—and within health, to make sure we get as much health as possible for the money.” ?? In the October session of Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign’s Innovation & Health Equity Discussion Series, our executive director Sara Anderson had the opportunity to speak about the Bay Area Global Health Alliance and introduce the session’s featured speaker, Alliance board member Krista Donaldson. Krista shared her invaluable experiences as a health innovator and highlighted the insightful lessons learned in doing this work. A key takeaway from her discussion: in designing to address a health equity gap, it is important to think about impact as part of the design process and to collaborate with and learn from the communities being served. ?? ??
