Doing "whatever it takes" to uplift individuals, families, and communities ?? since 1953
关于我们
BACS breaks the mental health, housing, and community barriers that hold people back. We are helping people experiencing mental health needs or housing crises, while balancing other complications like health needs, substance use, generational trauma, incarceration, poverty, and more. BACS does “whatever it takes” to create programs that meet community needs, integrating nearly seven decades of behavioral health expertise with our Housing First philosophy.

We appreciate the dedicated social workers at Bay Area Community Services (BACS) for their tireless efforts to provide compassionate care and support to our community. Meet Mike, whose passion for community service led him to join BACS, where he was drawn to the organization's mission and values. He was particularly inspired by the organization's founding by a group of churches and advocates Oakland and Alameda, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to serving the community. Inspired by CEO Jamie Almanza's passion and commitment, he knew he wanted to be part of a team that shared his dedication to community service. As a new member of the team, Mike is excited to learn and grow with BACS. He's motivated by the organization's brilliant and compassionate staff, who bring together passion, common sense, and expertise to make a real difference. In celebration of Black History Month, BACS honors the generations of African Americans who fought tirelessly for freedom, citizenship, and equality. We recognize the disproportionate challenges faced by the Black community, including homelessness, poverty, and systemic injustices. Notably, Black/African Americans make up 44% of individuals seeking help at BACS and 41.7% of our staff. As we reflect on our shared history, we recommit to striving for equality and justice. We stand on the shoulders of millions who paved the way for progress, and we continue to work towards a brighter future for all.
